What we want

The Psychologist I - Telehealth Substance Use focus provides multiculturally competent telebehavioral health counseling and outreach to individuals, couples, groups within the Telehealth Institute’s communities served with an emphasis on substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns in the youth and adolescent populations. The role includes crisis intervention, psychological assessment, program coordination, supervision, and training, with a strong focus on evidence-based interventions for substance use disorders. May provide supervision for doctoral interns, graduate students in counseling or clinical psychology, and graduate assistants. The Psychologist may also collaborate with schools and other healthcare settings to improve access to behavioral health services for youth and their families.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Doctorate in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or other degree acceptable to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP).

  • One year full-time supervised internship in college or university counseling center or other relevant setting, pre-doctoral internship preferably APA accredited.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Eligible for licensure in the State of Texas as a Licensed Psychologist. Become licensed in Texas as a Psychologist within one year from date of employment. Must maintain licensure for continued employment.

Responsibilities

Clinical Service Delivery

  • Provides evidence-based telebehavioral health counseling as well as crisis intervention to individuals, couples, and groups, including group and individual sessions tailored to correctional facilities.

  • Administers and interprets psychological tests/inventories, makes referrals, and manages various organizational and administrative aspects of counseling cases.

  • Provides career and personal counseling to individuals, couples, and groups, assessments, crisis intervention, and psycho-educational presentations.

  • Flexes schedule to provide additional clinical services including appointments, outreach, crisis, and other duties as needed.

  • Meets ethical obligations for timely documentation of counseling services per state licensure requirements and policies.

  • Seeks consultation from peers and leadership for difficult clinical cases per state licensure requirements.

  • Participates in continuing education and professional development activities related to the performance of job functions and maintenance of skills in one’s professional specialty area.

Organizational Outreach and Program Development and Coordination

  • Coordinates a minor program or assists in the coordination of a major program with an emphasis on a correctional facility mental health services program.

  • Performs outreach to identify opportunities for collaboration with external and internal stakeholders related to organizational tactics and strategies.

  • Works with organizational partners to identify, implement, and administer mental health or other programs supported by the organization with an emphasis on incarcerated populations.

Supervision and Training

  • Provides or participates in weekly supervision and training including review of recorded sessions and case review for doctoral interns and/or practica students.

  • Delivers training sessions for predoctoral psychology interns, psychology practicum students, licensed professional counselor interns, and staff.

Professional Development

  • Per state licensure requirements, participates in continuing education and professional development activities related to the performance of job functions and maintenance of skills in one’s professional specialty area.

  • Publishes and/or disseminates the results of research and evaluation efforts.

  • Participates in professional association activities including provision of professional presentations at conferences and workshops.

  • Engages in applied research and evaluation activities as determined by organizational leadership

  • Remains flexible to perform additional responsibilities and tasks as required or assigned by the supervisor to support departmental goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year full-time post-doctoral clinical experience in multidisciplinary, college or university counseling center, or other relevant setting.

  • Clinical experience delivering therapeutic telehealth counseling services

  • Previous experience providing both individual and group counseling to incarcerated individuals

  • Demonstrated expertise in treating anger management issues, mindfulness interventions, substance use, and trauma-related conditions.

  • Experience providing mental health care to adolescents, adults, and/or couples.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Processes of clinical supervision of trainees in psychology

  • Comfortable with learning new technology and delivering services via telehealth.

  • Understanding and willingness to learn new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) environments in support of telehealth counseling services

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Knowledge of clinical competency in multicultural counseling.

  • Adherence to the Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for the relevant Texas State Licensing Board and all relevant laws of the state of Texas.
