Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Psychologist 5 to join our multidisciplinary team. This position serves as a senior-level clinician responsible for providing advanced psychological evaluation, treatment, and oversight within a correctional environment. The Psychologist 5 supports the mental health needs of individuals in custody through evidence-based practices, direct clinical services, and leadership in program development.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, the ability to work effectively in a secure setting, and a commitment to promoting rehabilitation, stability, and emotional well-being for the offender population. This role also provides consultation to facility leadership, supervision to mental health staff, and contributes to policy implementation and quality-of-care initiatives.

Examples of duties

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice psychology followed by three years of experience in psychological research, testing, or counseling.

Supplemental information

Job Duties:

  • Provide supervision and monitor psychological staff in conformity with the regulations of the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologist.
  • Incumbent will substitute for any staff member on any task.
  • Oversees investigations on complaints and inquiries concerning mental health treatments at EHCC.
  • Advises Wardens and their designees regarding the clinical aspects of management decisions affecting patients with other EHCC staff to provide coordination of services as well as project planning and review.
  • Perform psychological diagnosis and treatment of inmates and prepares psychological evaluation reports.
  • Conducts comprehensive and specialized psych diagnostic examinations when the need for this level of expertise is indicated by screening or by a complex referral question.

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
