Lead Psychiatrist – Prison Directorate

Location: Derrimut/Ravenhall Correctional Centre, VIC
Classification: HN64
Salary Range: $221.10 base per hour + Super (as per EBA)
Employment Type: Fractional – 0.6 EFT

About the Role

Forensicare is Victoria’s specialist provider of forensic mental health services. We are seeking a Prison Lead, Psychiatry in this newly created role, to provide operational and strategic leadership for psychiatrists across the Forensicare prison directorate. This role ensures psychiatric care is safe, person-centred, and evidence-based, while fostering innovation and professional development.

You will work closely with the Director, Clinical Services (prison operations) to support broader directorate priorities, including governance, innovation, and integrated models of care.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead psychiatric services ensuring safe, evidence-based care aligned with strategic priorities.
• Supervise and develop consultants and registrars, promoting clinical excellence.
• Coordinate medical workforce planning, including rotation schedules and leave management, to maintain service continuity and operational efficiency
• Support the DCS strengthening clinical governance, embedding a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Drive workforce planning, governance, and service innovation.
• Build strong stakeholder relationships and support integrated models of care.

About You
• Fellowship of RANZCP (or equivalent) with substantial experience in psychiatry and prior experience as a forensic psychiatrist.
• Advanced Training Certificate in Forensic Psychiatry highly regarded.
• Demonstrated understanding and application of clinical governance principles in the delivery of safe, high-quality forensic mental health services
• Proven leadership in clinical settings
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
