Job Description

Hillcrest Children & Family Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to the provision of comprehensive, evidence-based mental health services in Washington, DC. The Psychiatrist works closely with all divisions and departments to provide clinical consultation and support regarding behavioral health program strategy and development, compliance with accepted medical standards, and practitioner/provider education. The Psychiatrist will diagnose and treat patients in the adult, child, and adolescent services, develop and foster team partnerships, and collaborate with case management and the multidisciplinary team of health care professionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Psychiatric Services, Medication Evaluations, Psychiatric Evaluations, and other Assessments as indicated.
  • Supervise and champion the nursing staff, therapists, and community support staff
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing/clinical methods to ensure effective and efficient use of staff, facilities, equipment, and other resources while maintaining patient care standards; revise policies as needed.
  • Average 33-40% direct care services and 60-67% as Medical Director
  • Oversee Medical Department, working through a P&T committee (Pharmaceutical & Therapeutics, policy and practice developments, and others aspects of Integrated care.
  • Work in collaboration with the clinical leadership team and Practice Administrator to close gaps and move to improve healthcare integration and health outcomes for clients.
  • Participate in training activities and peer review as necessary.
  • Work to integrate behavioral health and primary care including engaging primary care partners (family practice physicians, clinics, urgent care facilities).
  • Review and sign treatment plans and other documents affirming medical necessity in accordance with Medicaid/Medicare regulations and certification standards.
  • Exercise best practice methods in the delivery of psychiatric care and medication management.
  • Meet service and documentation standards.

Educational Requirements:

  • Must be Board Certified in Psychiatry with an active, unrestricted license in District of Columbia
  • Must have valid DEA license and District of Columbia Controlled Substance registration.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a supervisory or administrative role within a behavioral health setting
  • Minimum of two years working knowledge of Assertive Community Treatment model of care
  • Program development experience is preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Must be on-site 3-4 days per week, including participation in mandatory department meetings and committee sessions.
  • Contractor is responsible for maintaining their own liability insurance
  • Must have an active, attested CAQH profile
