What we want

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner position in the College of Nursing provides direct mental health care in an innovative partnership with at Bluebonnet Trails Community Services, a local mental health authority in Central Texas, to provide care in an integrated behavioral health setting to patients with psychiatric, substance use disorder and mental/behavioral health conditions.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One year directly related experience serving as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)


Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP), licensed Registered Nurse (RN), and CPR certified.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

  • Bilingual

  • Psychiatric Mental Health – Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certified

Responsibilities

Patient Care and Management

  • Performs history, psychosocial, and physical examinations, diagnosis acute and chronic conditions, formulates therapeutic plans of care, ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests, medication management and provides education to patients and their families.

  • Coordinates the mental health care of patients in order to provide safe, effective, efficient and timely patient-centered care. Liaises between clinical staff and consult services. Care plans and execution of those plans should encompass the entire service to tie the service together. Consults with physicians and other members of the healthcare team regarding the care of patients with complex diagnosis.

  • Works in a collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine health needs of patients and families. Demonstrates and role models an interdisciplinary collaborate approach to patient care. Coordinate the patient care plan and communicate with the integrated behavioral healthcare team.

Documentation and Record Keeping

  • Documents patient care.

  • Documents clinical encounters clearly, precisely, and in a timely manner.

  • Maintains and monitors patient records, assesses healthcare needs, and provides patient education.

Clinical Consultation and Education

  • Serves as a clinical resource for staff through consultation formal and informal education, review of literature and participation in seminars, conferences and simulation.

  • Collaborates with psychiatry physicians

  • Promotes costs savings and optimal patient experience in mental health care

  • Applies, models and teaches evidence-based Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral for Treatment SBIRT in clinical setting.

Professional Development and Improvement

  • Participates in rapid cycle continuous process improvement.

  • Participates in scholarly projects as appropriate.

  • Serves on committees, providing presentations and participating in divisional staff development.

  • Participates in grant data reporting

  • Willing to provide Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for Substance Use Disorders (SUD)
