Job Summary
Created in 2025, this Fellowship provides foundational training to prepare APPs for a career in critical and acute care medicine. The fellows participate in a year-long program in a supportive environment with ample autonomy, while caring for medically complex and critically ill patients. The program includes a diverse realm of clinical rotations, a robust didactic curriculum and opportunities to learn from skilled APPs, physicians, clinical pharmacists, nurses and other support staff.

The fellowship is within the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine with a focus on medical critical care. The bulk of time spent in the Medical ICU and Huntsman ICU (Heme/Onc). Our team consists of 22 APPs with varying experience levels who work alongside Intensivist Physicians.


Responsibilities

Didactic Curriculum

  • Monthly Critical Care APP Fellowship core lecture series
  • Monthly HICUMICU APP group education meeting
  • Monthly HICUMICU APP group journal club.
  • 1 week “hospital Medicine boot camp” put on by the Hospital Medicine APC fellowship
  • Procedural and skills-based workshops to be assigned.
  • Additional opportunities: Weekly Physician Fellows conference, Weekly Pulmonary Grand Rounds, Daily informal MICU teaching

Minimum Qualifications
Required
Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred
Certification in ACLSBLSNRPATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
