Job Description

PsychPhys is seeking a Provisional Psychologist with a passion for working with children, neurodiversity, intellectual disabilities, and opportunities to support clients across the lifespan.

This part-time role (3–4 days/week) offers great flexibility and is based at our Reservoir Practice Site — perfect for those wanting meaningful work and work-life balance in a supportive team environment.

Provisional Psychologist:

We are seeking a Provisional Psychologist with a passion for working with children, neurodiverse individuals, and clients with intellectual disabilities. This role also offers opportunities to support clients across the lifespan.

Responsibilities:

Assessment and crisis response:

  • Mental health assessments, including completion of mental state examination, case formulations, relapse prevention plans and individual treatment planning.
  • administering cognitive assessments, providing a written report with recommendations and scheduled feedback sessions with parents/guardian
  • Administer and interpret psychological tests and measurements, and document results internally and for clients.
  • Provision of risk assessments and development and implementation of appropriate crisis response and safety plans.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat slight or severe mental, emotional, or social disorders.

Clinical Interventions:

  • Develop individualised treatment plans for each client
  • Respond appropriately to clients' mental health and developmental needs.
  • Provision of evidence-based psychological and psychosocial therapeutic interventions that promote recovery
  • Consultation, liaison and linkage with internal (multi-disciplinary team) and external service systems to provide a full range of tailored interventions for clients.

Clinical Processes:

  • Participation in the regular program assessment meetings, clinical review meetings and providing comprehensive presentations of individuals for treatment planning.
  • Internal consultation and program reviews with other team members in order to ensure clients are receiving opportunities for holistic program support
  • Provide written documentation and referral paperwork as per ethical requirements .
  • Comply with APS code of Ethics
  • Participation in regular supervision, professional development and commitment to the continued development of clinical skills and evidence based best practice.

Candidate:

  • Demonstrated experience in providing assessment, intervention and case management services to young people with ASD.
  • A comprehensive understanding of biopsychosocial model of care.
  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver and communicate sensitive information with individuals inclusive of culture, age and cognition.
  • Demonstrate organic and genuine rapport building with individuals and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication with particular emphasis on interpersonal communication skill.
  • Demonstrate understanding of nonverbal communication and how to read these cues in individuals.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality and record-keeping.
  • Demonstrate skill in working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate competence in the use of information technology, internet, and desktop applications; e.g. electronic client record systems, Google Workspace and database packages.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to improving health outcomes in individuals.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical practice and therapeutic interventions and clinical risk management.
  • Understanding of emotional intelligence and the ability to adapt to the individual as required.
  • Understanding of the current mental health challenges in the community.
  • Enjoys health and fitness, and promotes benefits of healthy independent living.
  • Enjoys working in a team environment and a collaborative approach to therapy.
  • Enjoys making a positive impact in the community especially with individuals presenting with ASD.

Qualifications:

  • A satisfactory Police Criminal Check dated within 6 months of commencement.
  • A valid Employee Working with Children’s Check.
  • A current Driver’s Licence
  • Full COVID-19 Vaccination.
  • Experience working in community support services
  • Provisional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Psychologist with a current annual practising certificate is mandatory.
  • Member of or Eligible for APS Membership
