Opportunity Overview

Teradyne is seeking a Prototype Assembler to join our New Product Introduction Pilot Line team in North Reading, Massachusetts. In this role, you will support Engineering in product development by performing inspection, assembly, repair, and rework of prototype printed circuit board assembly hardware in compliance with IPC industry standards and within an ISO 9001/14001-certified work environment.

  • Execute quality control inspections of PCBA hardware in accordance with IPC industry standards.
  • Perform electronic component replacement, rework, and board and pad repair using advanced soldering techniques.
  • Operate automated SMT rework equipment for complex component replacement, including BGA rework and the creation of profiles for new package types.
  • Use soldering irons and hot-air rework tools to remove and install SMT components as small as 0201, as well as through-hole devices.
  • Conduct visual and X-ray inspection to verify solder-joint quality and detect defects.
  • Perform PCBA cleaning processes, including wash and bake procedures.
  • Support new-product hardware updates, engineering changes, and the assembly of Teradyne instruments, including electromechanical components.
  • Use PCB viewer and CAD tools to trace circuit paths, identify components, and analyze board layers.
  • Maintain accurate inspection, repair, and rework documentation in compliance with quality-system requirements.
  • Work within ISO 9001/14001 quality and environmental management systems.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in electronics preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of hands-on experience in PCB rework, repair, or electronics assembly in a manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of five years of experience with BGA rework and advanced soldering techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with SMT and through-hole soldering.
  • Proficiency with hand soldering irons and hot-air rework tools.
  • Experience operating X-ray inspection systems.
  • Familiarity with PCB viewer or CAD software, such as Cadence, Altium, or similar tools.
  • Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001/14001 standards, Windows, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Reader.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work on-site at our North Reading, Massachusetts facility.
  • IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 certifications are preferred.
  • Experience supporting NPI in ATE, semiconductor test, instrumentation, or hardware manufacturing is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: The base salary range for this role is $52,800 -$84,500. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.

Incentive Plan: This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
