Job Description

The Propulsion Systems Serviceability Lead influences early product designs to ensure service requirements are met across all powertrain commodities (engine systems, electrified propulsion, transmission, and driveline). This role leads a small team of technical resources that evaluates future product designs, drives design changes to close serviceability gaps, and transfers product knowledge to downstream partners (technical documentation, technical training, and contact center support).

  • Own serviceability assessments for an assigned propulsion commodity; provide recommendations and drive closure of serviceability issues through component/vehicle design changes.
  • Serve as Vehicle Lead for one or more vehicle programs, coordinating cross-commodity input and ensuring assessments and reporting align to major program milestones.
  • Plan and execute reviews using CAD/3D models, physical builds, and available engineering data to validate access, remove/install feasibility, tooling, and repair strategy assumptions.
  • Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier teams to influence designs early and resolve issues before tooling kickoff; communicate requirements, tradeoffs, and recommendations.
  • Lead and develop a small team of serviceability engineers/technical resources; prioritize workload, provide technical guidance, and support growth and performance.
  • Transfer product/service knowledge to downstream stakeholders (technical publications, service training, contact center) to enable accurate service information and effective support at vehicle launch.
  • Prepare and present serviceability status, risks, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional forums.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 8 years of automotive technical experience in powertrain systems, including hands-on experience with engines, transmissions, drivelines, electrified propulsion, and related components.
  • Demonstrated understanding of powertrain repair techniques, diagnostic processes, and industry practices.
  • Knowledge of process development, program management, and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; comfortable presenting to all levels of leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities across programs.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) or equivalent applications.
  • Professional conduct; trusted to handle sensitive or pre-release product information appropriately.
  • Willingness to travel domestically as needed (minimal travel expected).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of dealership service operations and technician workflow for powertrain repairs.
  • Ability to navigate CAD tools and interpret 3D models of powertrain systems and components.
  • Experience partnering with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier organizations and working through their processes.
  • Experience working with manufacturing facilities (plant support, build events, launch readiness).
  • Strong understanding of automotive diagnostic processes, wiring diagrams, and remove/install procedures for powertrain systems.
  • ASE and/or manufacturer-specific powertrain certifications.
  • Multilingual (written and verbal) communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate solutions while time-constrained.
