Department Overview

The Customer Excellence organization drives growth for the Market Intelligence division and S&P Global through strong customer partnerships, innovative engagement, and market-focused initiatives that expand our footprint and strengthen our position in the market.

The Customer Response Team is a strategic enabling function responsible for qualifying, coordinating, and responding to RFXs, proposals, questionnaires, and other customer information requests. The team plays a critical role in supporting new revenue generation while delivering an exceptional customer experience through high-quality, accurate, and relevant responses throughout the pre- and post-sales lifecycle.

Serving a diverse client base across global markets and geographies, the team operates with a strong client-first mindset, partnering closely with Sales, Product, Technology, Legal, Information Security, and other subject matter experts.

Position Summary

The Proposal Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating high-quality responses to RFPs, RFIs, RFQs, ITTs, and other customer proposal requests across multiple products and business lines.

The role will work closely with Sales, Product, Technology, Legal, Information Security, and other internal stakeholders to gather, develop, validate, and consolidate content into accurate, compelling, and customer-focused proposal responses.

The successful candidate will develop a strong understanding of our products, solutions, and platforms from both a business and technical perspective. They will act as a central point of coordination throughout the proposal lifecycle, ensuring responses are completed to a high standard, aligned with customer requirements, and delivered within agreed timelines.

The role will also contribute to the continuous improvement of proposal processes, content, tools, and knowledge-management practices to increase efficiency, consistency, and quality across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end proposal response process for RFPs, RFIs, RFQs, ITTs, and other customer requests.
  • Coordinate proposal activities across multiple internal stakeholders, including Sales, Product, Technology, Legal, Information Security, and other subject matter experts.
  • Establish and manage proposal timelines, milestones, responsibilities, and deliverables to ensure submissions are completed accurately and on time.
  • Review customer requirements and develop clear response plans, identifying key requirements, dependencies, gaps, and areas requiring stakeholder input.
  • Gather, coordinate, and consolidate information from subject matter experts to develop comprehensive and accurate proposal responses.
  • Write, edit, and refine proposal content to ensure responses are clear, concise, compelling, consistent, and aligned with customer requirements.
  • Ensure responses accurately reflect approved product capabilities, solutions, services, processes, and corporate standards.
  • Work with Product and Technical leads to develop a strong understanding of solutions and platforms and translate complex technical information into clear, customer-friendly content.
  • Partner with Sales to ensure proposals effectively address customer requirements and support the broader commercial opportunity.
  • Coordinate internal reviews, approvals, and sign-offs to ensure proposals are submitted in accordance with established governance and quality standards.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant internal processes, controls, policies, and standards to ensure proposal responses remain accurate and compliant.
  • Identify opportunities to improve proposal processes, response quality, content reuse, stakeholder engagement, and overall team efficiency.
  • Maintain and enhance centralized proposal databases, content libraries, templates, and response repositories.
  • Support the development and maintenance of standardized proposal content, processes, policies, templates, and best practices.
  • Monitor trends in customer requirements and proposal activity to identify opportunities to improve content, processes, and the overall customer experience.
  • Contribute to knowledge-management initiatives that improve the accessibility, accuracy, and consistency of proposal content across the organization.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives designed to enhance the scalability, efficiency, and quality of the proposal response function.

Business Competencies

Education & Experience

  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in proposal management, RFP/RFI/RFQ/ITT responses, bid management, or a related customer-response function.
  • Experience managing complex, cross-functional proposals within a B2B, financial services, technology, SaaS, data, or information-services environment.
  • Strong understanding of global financial markets and financial products.
  • Good understanding of the sales and bid lifecycle, including opportunity qualification, proposal planning, content development, review, approvals, and submission.
  • Experience managing multiple proposals simultaneously, often with competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to gather, synthesize, and validate information from subject matter experts and translate it into high-quality customer-facing responses.
  • Strong proposal writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor content to different customer requirements and audiences.
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex technology, SaaS, data, and product concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Knowledge of proposal governance, bid processes, content management, and knowledge-management practices is advantageous.
  • High proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project, as well as Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint.
