In this role, you'll investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve property claims while delivering responsive, professional service to our policyholders and agency partners.

We're looking for someone who combines strong property claims knowledge with sound judgment, effective communication, and a commitment to achieving fair and timely claim resolutions.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage an assigned caseload of property claims from initial investigation through resolution, ensuring timely, accurate, and equitable outcomes.
  • Investigate and evaluate property losses, determine applicable coverage, assess damages, and negotiate appropriate claim settlements in accordance with policy provisions and established guidelines.
  • Communicate regularly with policyholders, claimants, agents, and other involved parties to provide updates, explain the claim process, and facilitate timely resolutions.
  • Establish and maintain accurate claim reserves, thoroughly document claim activities, and ensure claim files reflect appropriate investigation and settlement decisions.
  • Identify and pursue salvage, subrogation, and other opportunities to minimize claim costs.
  • Coordinate with independent adjusters, contractors, and other outside experts as needed to support claim investigations and resolutions.
  • Recognize potential fraudulent activity and refer appropriate matters to the Special Investigations Unit.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including Underwriting, Loss Control, and Sales, to share relevant claim information and support effective business operations.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable state and federal regulations, company policies, and established claim handling procedures.

What You'll Bring:

  • A minimum of two years of property claims handling experience is preferred, including experience investigating, evaluating, and resolving property losses.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred; an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience will also be considered.
  • Strong understanding of property insurance coverage, claim investigation practices, damage assessment, and settlement procedures.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated commitment to customer service.
  • Sound critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to navigate challenging situations while maintaining positive professional relationships.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to independently manage competing priorities and an active claim caseload.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to effectively utilize claim management systems.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues and external partners.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain applicable state adjuster licenses and continuing education requirements.

Location & Schedule:

This is a full-time, salaried position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a remote, field-based position supporting an assigned territory within Western Michigan. Preference will be given to individuals located in the Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, or surrounding West Michigan areas; however, candidates throughout Western Michigan will be considered.

Regular daily travel throughout the assigned territory is expected to conduct onsite property inspections, assess damages, and support claim investigations and resolutions. Occasional overnight travel may be required. A company vehicle is provided.
