Job Description


We are seeking an experienced
Project Yard Manager

to oversee all daily operations at a busy logistics yard in Mombasa. The yard serves as a critical hub for containerized cargo, breakbulk, out-of-gauge (OOG) shipments, hazardous materials, and oil & gas equipment. The successful candidate will ensure safe, compliant, and efficient yard activities while optimizing space, equipment, and personnel. This role requires strong leadership to enforce safety, quality, and environmental standards, while also driving digitalization, customer service excellence, and sustainability.


Key Responsibilities


  • Enforce compliance with ISO, OSHA, IOGP, and API standards.


  • Manage high-risk operations (lifting, hazardous materials) using proper permits-to-work (PTWs).


  • Lead safety meetings, audits, and emergency response drills.


3. Oil & Gas Cargo Handling


  • Oversee handling of oil & gas equipment, pipes, and hazardous cargo.


  • Ensure compliance with IOGP and API pipe handling standards.


  • Collaborate with project and engineering teams for specialized logistics requirements.


4. Team Management


  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team (operators, riggers, supervisors).


  • Implement shift schedules, KPIs, and performance evaluations.


  • Promote a safety-first, inclusive, and high-performance culture.


5. Equipment Oversight


  • Manage and inspect yard equipment (forklifts, cranes, reach stackers).


  • Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed to minimize downtime.


6. Digital Systems & Reporting


  • Utilize Yard Management Systems (YMS), digital PTW tools, and cargo tracking platforms.


  • Monitor operational performance through dashboards.


  • Ensure transition toward paperless processes.


7. Stakeholder Engagement


  • Liaise with clients, contractors, regulatory bodies (KRA, KPA), and internal teams.


  • Support audits, inspections, and customer site visits.


8. Sustainability


  • Drive waste reduction, energy efficiency, and carbon-reduction initiatives.


  • Support company green logistics and sustainability goals.


Requirements


Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.


  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in yard, terminal, or heavy logistics operations.


  • At least 3 years in a leadership role.


  • Mandatory:

    Hands-on experience handling oil & gas cargo and/or OOG/heavy-lift logistics.
