Hazardous Materials/Indoor Environmental Quality

St. Catharines, ON

Salary Range: CAD $50,000-$55,000

Pinchin is seeking a Project Technologist to join our HAZ/IEQ team in St. Catharines The role reports to the Operations Manager and is being filled as a replacement role.

Department Overview

In this position, you will play an important role in helping clients create safer and healthier spaces. Your work will support projects that protect workers, improve building performance, and strengthen the health and resilience of communities. You will assess conditions in the field, gather accurate data, and translate your findings into clear recommendations that help clients make informed decisions. You will collaborate closely with colleagues and clients to understand their goals and deliver solutions that reflect quality, integrity, and care. This is meaningful work with real impact, and you will grow your skills while contributing to projects that make buildings and environments better.

Your role and Action:

  • Complete assessments of buildings for designated substances (asbestos, lead, mercury, silica, etc.) and other hazardous materials such as mould and PCBs, complete mould, indoor air quality (IAQ) and industrial hygiene assessments.
    • Conduct interviews with clients regarding building history and site-specific client concerns
    • Perform site reviews and evaluate building systems and materials
  • Assess building damages related to floods, water losses, smoke and fire
    • Assist clients following flood and loss emergencies to get buildings dried, cleaned or remediated and operational
    • Collect mould and bacteria samples
    • Identify and sample suspect asbestos, lead and PCB-containing materials
  • Conduct building materials surveys by identifying, recording, and documenting the type, quantity, and location of hazardous building materials and equipment.
  • Collect bulk, wipe, and air samples (including Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) asbestos air samples) for laboratory analysis in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Interpret analytical results in relation to legislative requirements and industry‑accepted guidelines and communicate findings clearly.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and drawings that document methodologies, findings, and recommendations to address hazardous materials and IAQ concerns.
  • Perform on‑site reviews and air monitoring during mould, asbestos, and other hazardous materials abatement or restoration projects to verify work has been completed appropriately.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and Project Managers while maintaining strong client relationships and supporting quality control through accurate sampling and reporting.

What You'll Bring to Pinchin:

  • College diploma in Environmental, Construction, or Architectural Technology, or a Bachelor of Science / Applied Science in Engineering (or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Experience with building construction, maintenance, or related fieldwork is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and the ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self‑directed, mature, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and access to a personal vehicle, with availability for short‑term travel to client sites.
  • Availability to work outside of core business hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, as required.
