We are currently seeking a Project Supervisor to join our Mining team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, this position is responsible coordinating and supervising project-related activities within the open pit mining operation to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with operational plans, engineering standards, environmental requirements, and company procedures. The role provides frontline leadership to crews, contractors, and equipment operators while supporting production targets, project milestones, and continuous improvement across the mining area.

The opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise daily project activities in the open pit, including earthworks, haul road construction and maintenance, drainage works, waste dump development, pit infrastructure, and other mining support projects.
• Coordinate personnel, contractors, mobile equipment, materials, and resources to achieve project objectives and agreed schedules.
• Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with mine safety standards, statutory requirements, environmental controls, and company procedures.
• Conduct pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, workplace inspections, job safety analyses, and field-level risk assessments.
• Monitor project progress, productivity, equipment utilisation, quality of work, and adherence to design specifications and mine plans.
• Provide clear work instructions to operators, trades, contractors, and support crews, ensuring tasks are understood and executed safely.
• Identify hazards, operational constraints, and project risks, and implement corrective actions in consultation with the Superintendent, engineers, and other stakeholders.
• Support planning and scheduling by providing field updates, progress reports, resource requirements, and improvement recommendations.
• Maintain accurate records of daily activities, delays, incidents, equipment hours, material movements, and workforce attendance.
• Promote a positive safety culture by coaching team members, addressing unsafe behaviours, and encouraging active hazard reporting.
• Liaise with mining, maintenance, technical services, processing, safety, environment, and contractor teams to ensure effective coordination of project work.
• Respond promptly to incidents, emergencies, breakdowns, and operational disruptions while ensuring appropriate reporting and escalation.

Health, Safety, Environment and Community Responsibilities

• Lead by example in applying safe work practices and complying with all site safety systems.
• Ensure critical controls are understood, verified, and applied for high-risk activities such as working around heavy mobile equipment, working near edges, lifting operations, blasting interfaces, dewatering, and traffic management.
• Stop work where unsafe conditions or behaviours are identified and ensure issues are rectified before work continues.
• Support environmental compliance by managing sediment controls, waste disposal, spill prevention, dust suppression, water management, and rehabilitation requirements.
• Respect community, landowner, and cultural obligations associated with project activities and site access requirements.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in open pit mining, civil earthworks, quarrying, or a similar heavy industry environment.
• Previous experience in a supervisory, leading hand, or project coordination role.
• Strong practical knowledge of open pit mining methods, mobile equipment operations, haul road construction, drainage, pit infrastructure, and material movement.
• Demonstrated understanding of mining safety systems, risk management, incident reporting, and environmental controls.
• Current valid driver’s licence; ability to operate or understand the safe use of light vehicles in mining areas.
• Relevant trade, technical, civil construction, mining, or supervisory qualification is desirable.
• First aid, risk management, incident investigation, and supervisor safety training are desirable.

• Ability to read and interpret work plans, drawings, permits, procedures, and project schedules.
• High level of safety awareness and commitment to hazard identification and risk control.
• Competence in basic computer systems for reporting, daily logs, schedules, and incident documentation.
• Ability to work effectively with contractors, operators, technical personnel, and management.
