Job Description

The Project Superintendent is responsible to manage and decisively lead all aspects of surface and underground

operations, including environmental, health and safety initiatives, supervisor and employee development, project

management, cost management and building a constructive and positive working relationship with peers.

The Project Superintendent will oversee an experienced team of supervisors and work crews, build, and maintain

high performing teams with comprehensive mentorship and leadership across the work group, whilst ensuring all

teams operate with the highest regard to safety

1. Responsible for the overall management of all mining projects.
2. Responsible for the day-to-day operations by developing and monitoring project performance against project plans, schedules, and goals to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.
3. Identify, assess, prioritize, and resolve production and employee related problems.
4. Interface with MSHA and other State and Federal inspectors.
5. Conduct mine inspections to ensure safety standards are being met by employees and determine safety

hazards and identify potential improvements to working conditions.

1. Plan and coordinate work schedules.
2. Participates in establishing policies and procedures for mine operations, including standards regarding

equipment maintenance, training programs, and mine safety standards.

1. Coordinates and allocates resources to achieve performance plans, schedules and goals.
2. Takes corrective action when problems are detected.
3. Report non-compliance and ensure communications throughout the mine to not repeat events.
4. Ensure employees understand and follow policies and procedures.
5. Prepares and submits reports on progress and status of mine operations.
6. Participate in the development of capital budget, monitors expenses and takes action to correct deficiencies.
7. Ensures all administrative functions are being complied with.
8. Ensures compliance with legislative regulatory requirements, company and customer policies and procedures.
9. Engage and collaborate with peers and other support functions to identify overarching risk and

bottlenecks and take remedial action to correct and/or improve.

1. Ensure the supervisory team possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out the work

competently and safely.

1. Exhibit sound leadership practices, solid guidance and to provide direction and support to Direct Reports

with clear and concise communications via daily meetings, reviews, documented planning.

1. Ensures strict adherence to the Redpath’s Philosophy, Guidelines for Success, Code of Conduct and Cardinal Rules.
2. Establishes full compliance with the Redpath 17 element safety program and monthly SAP (Safety Accountability Program).
3. Manage emergency situations and escalate as required.
4. Responsible for hiring, training, development, discipline and termination of employees.
5. If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
6. Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards. Performs Field Level Risk Assessments.
7. Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner.
8. Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
9. Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
10. Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
11. Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
12. Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.

Education

1. High School or equivalent.

Work Experience:

1. Must have extensive underground mining experience with a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. An in-depth understanding of underground mine development and planning
2. An in-depth understanding of mine safety legislation and regulations
3. An in-depth understanding of underground mining practices, policies, procedures, and standards.
4. An in-depth understanding of underground equipment.
5. A comprehensive understanding of mine-site operations.
6. Knowledge of computer programs including standard MS office programs.
7. Poses highly effective organizational and time management skills.
8. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
9. Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
10. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
11. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
12. High level of attention to detail, neatness and accuracy.
