Project Procurement Buyer – Renewable Energy Projects (India)

Department: Procurement / Supply Chain

Location: Pune, India

1. Role Purpose

The Project Procurement Buyer is responsible for executing end‑to‑end procurement activities for renewable energy projects in India, including Solar PV, Wind, Hybrid, and Battery Energy Storage Systems. The role ensures timely, cost‑effective, and quality‑compliant sourcing of equipment, materials, and services in alignment with project schedules, technical specifications, and corporate procurement policies.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Execution

  • Manage project‑specific procurement activities from RFQ to Purchase Order issuance.
  • Develop sourcing strategies for major equipment and services (modules, inverters, transformers, BoP, structures, civil & electrical works, logistics, etc.).
  • Conduct supplier due diligence, commercial analysis, and contract negotiations.
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with internal governance, DOAs, and audit requirements.

B. Supplier Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers as per pre‑qualification criteria.
  • Drive supplier performance monitoring on cost, delivery, quality, and HSE compliance.
  • Maintain competitive supplier databases for renewable energy components and construction services.
  • Work with global category teams to leverage group synergies and frame agreements.

C. Contracting & Negotiation

  • Prepare and administer EPC, BoS, service, and subcontract agreements in coordination with legal and technical teams.
  • Lead commercial negotiations to secure best TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).
  • Manage contract variations, claims, LDs, and dispute resolution.

D. Project Coordination

  • Align procurement timelines with project schedules, engineering deliverables, and site requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with Engineering, Construction, Quality, HSE, and Project Management teams.
  • Track and report procurement progress, risks, and mitigation actions.
  • Support logistics planning, import documentation, and customs clearance processes.

E. Cost, Quality & Risk Management

  • Conduct cost benchmarking and market intelligence for key renewable categories.
  • Identify risks across supply chain and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, warranties, and technical specifications.
  • Drive localization strategies where appropriate (e.g., modules, inverters, structures).

3. Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical / Mechanical preferred).
  • MBA in Supply Chain / Operations preferred.

Experience

  • 4–10 years of procurement experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in Renewable Energy (Solar / Wind / BESS).
  • Demonstrated experience in sourcing major solar/wind equipment and BoP packages.
  • Experience with EPC contracts, subcontracting, and large‑scale project procurement.

4. Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of renewable project equipment (modules, inverters, wind turbines, transformers, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of Indian renewable regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with SAP/ERP procurement modules.
  • Knowledge of import processes, INCOTERMS, logistics, and taxation (GST, customs duty).
  • Through knowledge of technical terms used in renewable energy projects
  • Knowledge of documentation and approval processes for renewable energy projects

Soft Skills

  • Excellent negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
  • High level of integrity, transparency, and adherence to procurement ethics.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet aggressive project timelines.

5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Procurement schedule adherence.
  • Cost savings and TCO optimization.
  • Supplier performance and quality compliance.
  • Contract cycle time and governance compliance.
  • Procurement risk identification and mitigation.

6. Travel Requirements

  • Willingness to travel to project sites, supplier facilities, and regional offices as required.
