Project Operations Associate

The Project Operations Associate provides support to the entire Project Controls team, including Schedulers, Cost Analysts, and the Project Controls Manager. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to learn the fundamentals of project scheduling, cost control, data analysis, and reporting within the context of large-scale power generation and EPC projects. The intern will assist with administrative and analytical tasks while gaining exposure to industry tools such as Primavera P6, Excel, and Power BI. This role is ideal for a student seeking experience in project management, engineering, or business operations with a strong interest in infrastructure or energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Support schedule management by updating project schedules, entering data, and applying basic formatting in Primavera P6 and Excel.
  • Assist cost analysts with collecting, organizing, and validating financial data for budget, commitment, and actuals tracking.
  • Maintain and update project dashboards and reports using Excel and Power BI.
  • Create visual reporting materials, including charts, graphs, and summary tables for project progress and performance reviews.
  • Participate in project team meetings, document key discussions, and track follow-up actions.
  • Organize and manage project documentation, schedules, and reports in shared drives or document control systems.
  • Perform basic data quality checks, identifying errors or inconsistencies for review.
  • Provide ad hoc project controls support, including compiling performance metrics and coordinating with internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with monthly project status reports and presentation preparation.
  • Learn and apply project controls principles, including Critical Path, Earned Value, and schedule logic.
  • Shadow project controls team members to gain exposure to tools, workflows, and communication processes.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction) to gather project information as needed.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Industrial Engineering, Business, Construction Engineering, HR, Engineering, Business, or Information Technology from an ABET‑accredited university.
  • Strong communication and interpretation skills, including the ability to read and analyze technical documents, journals, procedures, and regulations, as well as prepare reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effective presentation skills, with the ability to communicate information clearly to managers, clients, customers, and public groups.
  • Solid mathematical and analytical foundations, including probability, statistics, geometry, trigonometry, and applying ratios, percentages, and proportions to real‑world scenarios.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving ability, including collecting and analyzing data, interpreting technical instructions, and working with abstract and concrete variables to reach valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Acrobat, Excel).
  • Knowledge of databases, project management concepts, and technical diagrams, including flowcharts and graphical tools.
  • Familiarity with project controls and reporting tools such as Power BI, SharePoint, Tableau, Primavera P6, Power Apps, Power Automate, or Microsoft Project (preferred but not required).
