About the role

Mater’s Built Environment Department have an exceptional opportunity available for a Project Officer to join the team in a permanent full-time capacity.

Mater's Capital Works team manage a variety of asset and infrastructure projects across South East Queensland campuses including South Brisbane, Redland, Gold Coast and Springfield including new buildings, refurbishments, fit outs and services. Salary range: $54.57 - $59.38 per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

Some key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsibility for allocated tasks associated with the delivery of project(s),
  • Assist the relevant Project Manager with liaison and monitoring the work of the appointed design consultants to ensure compliance with Mater Design Guidelines and procedures,
  • Provide constructive and informative technical / clinical advice to clients, consultants and contractors within supervision of the relevant Manager,
  • Maintain a clear and constructive dialogue with the client / users throughout the project to ensure awareness of the project scope, program and budget expenditure where appropriate,
  • Assist the Project Manager with efficient processing of purchase orders, progress claims and variations in liaison with relevant Superintendent / Project Manager and Finance Department to ensure that Mater meets all its contractual and statutory obligations,
  • Assist with the planning, development and execution of the total project plan in relation to project integration, human resources, scope, communication, time, risk, cost management, procurement and quality,
  • Plan and execute construction commissioning tasks, relocations and decanting of areas to prepare for construction projects,
  • Assist with carrying out an internal closure review on the projects to ensure that the project is wrapped up successfully and to ensure that all learnings from the project are recorded,
  • Assist the Project Manager with the management of projects within the project delivery framework and policies and procedures of Mater and the Mater Capital Works Department.

About you

To be successful for this role it is you will have demonstrated success in a similar role within a large live environment and complex organisation and will possess the following:

  • Experience in managing relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
  • Demonstrated exceptional levels of written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in working in a construction project management environment (preferably capital works).
  • Entry level or higher qualification in Projects or Construction Management is desirable.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
