Job Description

  • New opportunity at the Authority to specialise in land use planning and natural hazards!

  • Role based in Parramatta/Sydney, with flexible/hybrid working environment

  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $113,574 - $125,720 + super 

About the role

We are seeking an Advisor Land Use Planning, where you will be key in shaping how NSW communities adapt to and recover from natural hazards. You will contribute to land use planning initiatives that assist in considering disaster risk mitigation through the state’s land use planning framework, ensuring long-term community resilience.

  • Conduct research and analysis to develop evidence-based recommendations for Disaster Adaptation Plans and land use planning responses.

  • Provide expert information and analysis regarding planning proposals, development applications, and the application of statutory planning powers to improve natural hazard management.

  • Support the review of legislative amendments, statutory instruments, and policies to strengthen the consideration of natural hazards across the planning system.

  • Work with state and local government agencies, providing technical advice, responding to complex inquiries, and contribute to cross-government projects that enhance community safety.

  • Draft professional briefings, technical reports, and high-level correspondence for executive leadership and government stakeholders.

  • Manage and monitor your own workstreams from inception to delivery, ensuring all project outcomes meet quality standards, timelines, and scope requirements.

About You 

You will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the NSW planning system, and the ability to integrate the consideration of disaster risk adaptation and mitigation. This role requires proven research and analytical skills to develop evidence-based recommendations and the ability to manage complex project workstreams.

Strong interpersonal skills are essential to maintain effective relationships with state and local government stakeholders where you will provide technical advice and navigate cross-agency inquiries. Additionally, you will hold high-level written communication skills to prepare technical reports, executive briefings, and stakeholder materials.

Essential Requirements 

  •  Tertiary qualification in public policy, planning, law, ecology, environmental science or other relevant discipline or equivalent expertise.
