Position Summary
Seeking students to serve as docents in the Center for Lake Erie Education and Research ( CLEER) housed within the Blasco Library, along Erie’s waterfront:
- Welcome visitors to the open and accessible center space
- Assist visitors with the proper use of interactive exhibit technology within the center
- Clean touch screens and other exhibit items when not otherwise engaged or as appropriate
- Communicate, listen, and share thoughts and ideas with visitors based upon interactive exhibits

Communication – The student worker will clearly and effectively share information about the proper usage of technology within the center.
Critical Thinking – The student worker will monitor and respond to needs of visitors to the center based upon situational context and logical analysis.
Equity and Inclusion – The student worker will work to ensure all people feel welcomed, safe, and included within the center space.
Leadership – The student worker will employ their strengths to achieve the overall mission of the center.
Professionalism – The student worker will recognize their role within the public library and act in the interest of Gannon University and the larger community.
Teamwork – The student worker will work collaboratively, inclusively, and effectively with other team members to create a hospitable work environment and achieve the overall mission of the center.
Technology – The student worker will clearly and effectively share information about the proper usage of technology within the center.

Required Qualifications
  • Willingness to learn about the local-to -global environment and related issues
  • Ability to learn and operate exhibit technology
  • Interest and openness to engaging public of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities
  • Timely and dependable
  • Welcoming and inclusive demeanor
  • Excellent oral communication skills in English
Successful candidates will have to complete and pass all state mandated clearances for working with children.


Preferred Qualifications
Successful candidates must be willing to work flexible weekday and weekend shifts, including evening hours, as part of the CLEER team. Multi-lingual is preferred.

Physical Demands
This position requires minimal physical demands, but applicants should be able to safely lift 25 pounds and sit and/or stand for extended periods of time; be able to work in a busy environment.
