Senior Project Manager and Principal Engineer – Roading Network Management opportunities

Represent WSP by leading and directing major road maintenance projects, seeking opportunities for WSP to provide on-going inputs, and strategic advice aligned with our Strategy.

These positions plays an active role within the national Transport team (based in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Hamilton), working collaboratively to support business performance across New Zealand. It contributes to local client engagement, strengthens WSP’s market profile, and supports the growth of trusted client relationships.

You will primarily lead and deliver work within the Network Management discipline, while also supporting other transport subsectors as required.

A key focus is the growth of the Asset and Network Performance pipeline, particularly within the greater Canterbury region.

The Roles:

  • Prepare project scope of works, briefs, consultancy fee estimates, and project delivery plans.
  • Manage tasks and projects, and implement timely and clear reporting systems, to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality.
  • Achieve the planned profit in relation to the Business Plan, by managing the project financial systems, invoicing and reporting.
  • Proactively engage with clients, internal and external project managers, contractors and other consultants, and assist project teams to deliver the services within the required standards, and time and cost constraints.
  • Regularly communicate with clients/team and to ensure they are well informed about the project, aware of project risks and involved in key project decisions to ensure their expectations are met
  • Liaise, coordinate and control activities with other sections of the business, in order to achieve technical quality, budget, programme objectives, and provide a total service to clients in order to achieve overall client satisfaction.
  • Keep the Project Director informed about project progress, issues and risks.
  • Assist Line Managers with the training and development of staff.
  • Grow our position with the New Zealand Transport Agency at the strategic and tactical level for Asset Management services.
  • Work collaboratively with others to ensure WSP wider technical capability is available to clients
  • Provide specialist technical advice and mentoring and training in your specialist areas.
  • Manage and/or provide technical support for projects
  • Ensure that all work undertaken is in accordance with appropriate professional and technical standards and practices together with effective quality assurance.
  • Undertake verification activities and be part of technical reviews of projects.

About you:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Preferably minimum of 10 years’ professional experience in Roading Network Management
  • Recognized Project Management Qualification (e.g. PMP/ APM / Prince 2) would be an advantage
  • Current, clean NZ Driver Licence
  • Proven ability and track record in managing multidisciplinary projects through the full spectrum of the project life cycle and delivering according to quality, time and budget requirements.
  • Extensive experience in writing quality and credible complex reports and documents.
  • Proven experience in market winning work and delivering projects.
