A nationally recognized San Jose architecture firm with a global presence is seeking a Project Manager. The firm's diverse portfolio spans high-rise residential, mixed-use, commercial, higher education, and civic work across offices in Southern California, the Bay Area, Texas, the East Coast, and Shanghai. Overall Responsibilities:

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead multidisciplinary project teams through all phases of design and construction for multi-family housing projects. This individual will be responsible for managing project scope, budget, schedule, staffing, client relationships, and consultant coordination while ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality architectural projects.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional client service.

Project Leadership

  • Lead and manage medium-sized project teams through all phases of design and construction.

  • Collaborate closely with the Principal-in-Charge to manage project staffing, workload, contracts, and overall project performance.

  • Partner with the Project Designer to ensure the design vision is successfully executed throughout the project.

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships while serving as the primary point of contact for project-related matters.

  • Understand and manage client standards, approval processes, project goals, and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and at the highest quality standards.

  • Communicate project expectations, responsibilities, and protocols to internal teams and consultants.

Team Leadership & Staffing

  • Assist in determining project staffing requirements and resource allocation.

  • Coordinate the work of project team members and consultants to meet project schedules and budgets.

  • Mentor, coach, and support the professional growth of team members.

  • Participate in employee performance reviews and contribute to staff development initiatives.

Project Planning & Financial Management

  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and work plans.

  • Monitor project progress, staffing needs, and backlog.

  • Communicate key milestones and deliverables to project teams.

  • Track project financial performance, including profitability and accounts receivable.

  • Maintain or exceed established project profitability goals.

Contracts & Proposals

  • Assist in developing project scopes, fee proposals, work plans, schedules, and additional service requests.

  • Participate in the preparation and review of client and consultant agreements.

  • Identify potential contractual risks and coordinate with firm leadership to resolve legal and liability concerns.

Programming & Design Management

  • Lead programming efforts by documenting owner and user requirements.

  • Ensure project requirements are effectively communicated to the design team.

  • Guide schematic design development while maintaining alignment with project goals, schedule, and budget.

  • Promote design excellence throughout the project and support high-quality presentations and client deliverables.

Technical Leadership

  • Coordinate architectural and engineering disciplines throughout project development.

  • Apply knowledge of building systems, construction methods, materials, and specifications.

  • Oversee the development and coordination of construction documents.

  • Ensure project documentation meets firm quality standards and client expectations.

Code & Agency Coordination

  • Review project documents for compliance with applicable building codes, accessibility standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate permit and agency approvals.

  • Represent the client during meetings with public agencies and review authorities as needed.

Communication & Construction Administration

  • Maintain organized project documentation and project files.

  • Lead project meetings and presentations.

  • Prepare and distribute meeting minutes and project communications.

  • Keep clients informed of project progress, risks, and recommended solutions.

  • Support projects through bidding, construction administration, and project closeout as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of architectural experience, including project management on increasingly complex projects.

  • Multi-Family Type V construction experience required.

  • Professional degree in Architecture or equivalent experience.

  • Licensed Architect required (California license highly desirable).

  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) preferred.

  • Demonstrated success managing project budgets, schedules, consultants, and client relationships.

  • Experience preparing project proposals, fee estimates, and presentations.

  • Strong understanding of architectural contracts and consultant coordination.

  • Thorough knowledge of building codes, accessibility requirements, and sustainable design practices.

  • Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and time management skills.
