Job Description

About the role

As a Project Manager within 4C Strategies' EMEA Defence team, based in Warminster, UK, you will lead the delivery of complex, high-value defence software projects that support defence organisations in strengthening readiness, resilience and operational capability. You will lead on all our maritime projects, building close working relationships with our Royal Navy customer. A maritime background or relevant experience is highly beneficial and our preference for this role.

Working closely with customers, consultants, solution architects and engineering teams, you will be responsible for delivering projects from planning through deployment and into support. You will coordinate cross-functional teams, manage project plans, oversee governance and ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and to the highest quality standards.

You will act as the primary delivery contact for all maritime projects, building trusted customer relationships through clear communication, structured project management and proactive stakeholder engagement. While working alongside technical specialists who develop solution designs and technical deliverables, your role is to lead project execution, coordinate delivery activities and ensure successful outcomes for both customers and 4C Strategies.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex defence software projects, ensuring successful execution within agreed scope, budget, quality and timelines.

  • Lead delivery across all maritime projects, acting as the primary point of contact for our Royal Navy customer.

  • Develop, maintain and communicate project plans, schedules and resource requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Translate customer and technical requirements into structured delivery plans in collaboration with Engineering, Consultancy and Solution Architecture teams.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, ensuring effective collaboration between Product, Engineering, Consultancy and Customer Success functions.

  • Act as the primary delivery interface for assigned customers, maintaining strong relationships through clear communication, regular reporting and proactive expectation management.

  • Manage project governance, risks, issues and dependencies, ensuring timely escalation and resolution where required.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable security, accreditation, contractual and quality requirements throughout project delivery.

  • Monitor project progress, budgets and forecasts, supporting effective commercial management within agreed contractual boundaries.

  • Identify opportunities to expand customer engagements and contribute delivery expertise to contract changes, proposals and business development activities.

  • Represent 4C Strategies professionally with customers, partners and at relevant industry events, including maritime and naval defence forums where relevant.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project delivery practices, governance and methodologies across the EMEA Defence organisation.

About you

You are an experienced Project Manager with a background in defence, software delivery or other technically complex and regulated environments. A maritime background, or experience working with the Royal Navy or naval customers, is highly beneficial and our preference for this role. You enjoy leading multidisciplinary teams, coordinating technical delivery and building strong relationships with customers and stakeholders.

You combine structured planning with pragmatic problem-solving and communicate confidently across technical and non-technical audiences. You are comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining a strong focus on quality, governance and customer satisfaction.

We believe you bring

  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex projects within defence, government, software or similarly regulated environments.

  • Maritime or naval domain experience, ideally including work with the Royal Navy or maritime defence customers.

  • Proven experience leading end-to-end project delivery across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strong project planning, scheduling, financial management and resource coordination skills.

  • Experience managing customer relationships and engaging confidently with senior stakeholders.

  • Strong understanding of project governance, risk management, security or accreditation processes and quality assurance.

  • Commercial awareness, with experience managing project scope, change and contractual commitments.

  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a structured and proactive approach.

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain UK Security Check (SC) clearance.

Desirable

  • Experience delivering projects for the UK Ministry of Defence, NATO or other defence organisations.

  • Experience delivering defence software or software-enabled capabilities.

  • Experience working in joint or collective training environments, with an understanding of the formal approach to large-scale maritime training.

  • Experience working within multinational organisations or collaborative delivery environments.

  • Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies alongside structured project management approaches.

  • Professional project management certification such as PRINCE2 Practitioner, PMP or Agile qualifications.
