Job Description

Industrial Construction Project Manager (On-Site Projects)

The Project Manager (PM) oversees the full lifecycle of large-scale or multiple smaller industrial construction projects — from estimating and pre-construction through execution, commissioning, and closeout. This on-site leadership role ensures that all project activities are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contractual, quality, and regulatory standards.

The PM serves as the primary commercial, contractual, and operational interface between the client, project team, and company leadership — driving project performance, cost control, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Provide direct, on-site leadership for the project delivery team, including superintendents, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Oversee day-to-day field activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work performance.
  • Develop and maintain project execution plans, logistics strategies, and progress tracking mechanisms.
  • Coordinate construction schedules using Primavera P6 or MS Project to maintain adherence to milestones.
  • Lead daily coordination and progress meetings to align stakeholders and resolve technical or field challenges.
  • Ensure full compliance with contract documents, design specifications, and industrial safety standards.

    Commercial & Contract Management

  • Manage all contractual and commercial aspects of the project from award through final closeout.
  • Interpret and enforce contract terms, scope definitions, change management procedures, and payment provisions.
  • Identify, quantify, and document changes in scope, preparing and negotiating change orders, claims, and extensions of time in collaboration with senior management.
  • Ensure all subcontract and purchase order agreements align with the prime contract and company risk policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date project cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Lead monthly project reviews with executive leadership covering cost performance, revenue recognition, and financial forecasts.
  • Oversee project invoicing, accounts receivable, and timely payment collection.
  • Collaborate with estimating and preconstruction teams to review proposals, budgets, and contractual terms on upcoming bids.
  • Serve as the project’s primary point of contact for all commercial matters, ensuring proactive issue resolution and professional client relations.

    Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure all personnel comply with OSHA, client, and company safety requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections, safety audits, and ensure proper PPE usage and documentation.
  • Report incidents, near misses, and corrective actions promptly and effectively.

    Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee QA/QC programs and verify that workmanship meets project and client standards.
  • Participate in constructability reviews, design coordination, and field issue resolution.
  • Lead the project closeout process, ensuring completion of punch lists, commissioning, and turnover documentation.
  • Support implementation of VDC/BIM tools and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and value.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5–10 years of progressive experience managing heavy industrial construction projects (chemical, pulp & paper, manufacturing, or similar).
  • Proven experience in contract administration, commercial risk management, and self-perform construction (electrical, piping, or mechanical trades).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects exceeding $25M–$100M in value.
  • Strong knowledge of Primavera P6, MS Project, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with contract types (Lump Sum, GMP, Cost Plus) and insurance programs (OCIP, CCIP, SDI).
