HNTB is seeking a highly motivated and talented Environmental Project Manager with strong technical and management skills to lead environmental planning, documentation and permitting tasks for major transportation clients. Responsible for managing the preparation and delivery of environmental documentation while coordinating and reviewing technical work performed by others. Will require managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously as well as providing mentorship and oversight to junior staff.

This position includes a mixture of office and field duties including but not limited to researching, gathering and analyzing data, preparing project materials, and applying environmental law and policy to ensure compliance on behalf of the client.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
  • Serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client’s satisfaction. Leads or actively participates in client contract scoping and negotiations.
  • Leads and prepares design documents, technical plans, written reports on projects
  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Leads the development and the execution of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.
  • Responsible for/oversees project staffing, including, but not limited to; recruitment, hiring, development, retention, and succession of project staff; development of plan for project staff reporting; and support for performance and compensation reviews.
  • Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships and pursuit efforts for mini-mega and mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal development and interview presentations for strategic, mini-mega and mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.
  • May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development and retention of staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
  • Typically responsible for management of project team(s) for one or more strategic (<$1M) or mini-mega ($1M to <$5M) projects, or may lead and/or work as a discipline lead on a mega ($5M to < $25M) project management team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Engineering, Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field and 10 years relevant experience
  • 2 years of successful management of projects

What You'll Bring:

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations including NEPA, SEQRA, CEQR and NJ EO-215.
  • Experience preparing federal, state and local environmental documents including Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and Categorical Exclusions.
  • Experience preparing special studies including Section 4(f), Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act and other regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience with NYC ULURP process including site selection, alternatives analysis, stakeholder coordination and securing City approvals.
  • Experience supporting the preparation of state and federal permit applications and coordination with regulatory agencies.
  • Serves as the task lead for complex projects with the ability to write scopes and budgets.
  • Leads the preparation of environmental reports and reviews and incorporates materials from others.
  • Responds to client questions and leads the comment resolution process.
  • Manages client meetings and oversees preparation of meeting materials.
  • Strong relationships with clients in the NYC market to support project opportunities and marketing pursuits.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Excellent project organizational and management skills.
  • Highly collaborative, positive and proactive communication skills.

What We Prefer:

  • Master's degree in Business, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field.
  • American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP), Registered Landscape Architect (RLA), Registered Architect (RA), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)
  • Experience with NYC and State regulatory agencies including NYSDEC, NYSDOS, NYCDDC, and NYCDCP.
  • 12 years relevant experience

New York, NYThe approximate pay range for New York is $126,950.84 - $248,205.18. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
