Candidates local to the Chicago area with the ability to work out of our office on a hybrid schedule will be preferred. Well-qualified candidates may be considered for remote work with occasional travel to the greater Chicago area to be expected. These location preferences allow us to best serve the needs of Leidos' electric utility customers. Candidates must be located in the United States to be considered.

The successful candidate will have an existing background in project management and track record of leading successful projects. Project types will range from fixed fee, T&M, and EPC contracts in the dynamic field of electric utility engineering. This role requires managing project and program performance of engineering deliverables including risk, schedule, and quality. The Project Manager is responsible to ensure day-to-day successful execution of contracted engineering in areas of performance, financial metrics, planning, schedule, quality, contractual compliance, safety, and client satisfaction. Coordination of third-party companies and subcontractors may also be required. Assignments are typically focused on a single Client with multiple projects and business development with in-person Client meetings. Typical tasks include internal and external reporting of financials, project progress, and change management. Support to internal execution teams typically involves tracking and controls of key performance indexes and analysis to staff for project success.


The successful Project Manager II candidate will support the following activities with moderate oversight from a Lead Project Manager:

  • Support project teams in completing engineering design for electric infrastructure projects (both public-owned and investor-owned utilities).
  • Manage overall project performance, including scope, schedule, budget, and reporting.
  • Develop and implement recovery plans to maintain compliance with approved budgets and timelines.
  • Ensure full contract compliance and adherence to client requirements.
  • Drive deliverables by coordinating with Engineering Leads, Managers, and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Maintain and document compliance with established quality control processes.
  • Serve as the primary interface with clients and internal management to resolve issues, track progress, and report costs, schedule adherence, and risks across programs.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, functional leaders, and support personnel.
  • Contribute to bid preparation, cost estimates, and RFP responses.
  • Manage monthly invoicing, accruals, and accounts receivable within prescribed deadlines.
  • Collaborate with teams to identify and pursue business development opportunities.

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Finance, or related field is required
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant project management experience
  • Proficiency with project management software (Workfront, MS Project, P6, or similar).
  • Strong MS Office skills; advanced proficiency in Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
  • Proven experience managing project financials, scopes, and schedules.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, and track technical efforts across multiple tasks.
  • Strong understanding of project financial planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP certification (or willingness to obtain within the first year) is preferred
  • Experience working with various contract types (Fixed Price, Time & Materials).
  • Direct utility industry experience, including exposure to projects for major U.S. electric utilities.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborative, team-based consulting environments.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $73,450.00 - $132,775.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
