Project Manager I – Utility Infrastructure Projects

Want to lead projects to maintain and upgrade our community’s utility infrastructure while growing your project management toolkit alongside experienced leaders?

Join Superior Water, Light & Power (an ALLETE company) as a Project Manager I, where you’ll take ownership of operations projects and help drive safe, reliable, on-time, on-budget execution from planning through construction.

What You'll Do

Some of our upcoming projects include lead service line replacements, gas main replacements, water plant rehabilitation, and other utility infrastructure work.

  • Manage multiple utility infrastructure projects from planning through construction, coordinating internal teams and external partners.
  • Own project controls, scope, schedule, budget, and risk while identifying issues early and recommending corrective actions.
  • Coordinate resources and contractors (staffing, vendors, materials/services) to meet milestones and support field execution.
  • Lead project communication through meetings, action-item follow-up, and clear status reporting to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Support procurement and closeout, including bid inputs, contract administration, documentation, and post-project lessons learned.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2+ years of experience in project management, project development, engineering, construction, or a related field required
  • Utility infrastructure or industrial project experience preferred
  • PMP or other PMI certification preferred
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to travel occasionally within the SWLP service territory and the state of Wisconsin
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Analytical/problem-solving skills; comfort troubleshooting issues and mitigating project risk
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude

The expected annual compensation range for this position is $65,000 - $82,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, this position qualifies for a comprehensive benefits package, including an Incentive Program, Retirement Benefits, Medical, Dental & Vision Plans, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Account, Life Insurance, Disability, Tuition Reimbursement, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences, and more.
