General Summary:

Performs professional-level, detail-oriented technical scheduling and project support activities associated with short- and mid-range transit service planning and implementation. Assists in developing and maintaining efficient and effective schedules for fixed-route bus and rail services to support on-time performance, cost efficiency, and customer needs. Works collaboratively with internal departments, contractors, and consultants in a multi-modal transit environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the scheduling and coordination of bus and rail services operated by DART and its contractors to help meet agency on-time performance and cost efficiency goals.
  • Conducts research, performs data analysis, and assists in the development of new, revised and modified transit schedules and services using DART’s Service Standards, planning studies, operational inputs, and budget constraints.
  • Assists senior staff in the development, review, and implementation of service change recommendations and scheduling projects.
  • Participates in quality control reviews of schedules, runtimes, and service changes to ensure consistency, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Coordinates with Bus and Rail Operations staff on scheduling-related matters and participates in cross-functional meetings as assigned.
  • Assists with the preparation and maintenance of operator route guides and operating instructions for the Transportation Department use.
  • Analyzes existing bus and rail schedules and runtimes to identify opportunities for improved reliability and efficiency.
  • Supports the development of schedule modifications and new schedules associated with new routes, service adjustments, and special projects.
  • Tracks project milestones, deliverables, and timelines for assigned service and scheduling initiatives.
  • Maintains working knowledge of bus and rail services, emerging transit service strategies, and innovative scheduling approaches.
  • Assists in the review and update of DART’s Service Standards and related planning documentation.
  • Prepares materials and assists with presentations related to Service Scheduling projects for internal staff, stakeholders, and community meetings.
  • Reviews public-facing materials such as timetables, Rider Alerts, and service change communications for accuracy and clarity.
  • Responds to scheduling-related customer comments and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Geography, Transportation, Statistics, Quantitative Methods or related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in service planning, scheduling, route design, or related analytical work.
  • Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  • Proficiency of PC software applications to include Microsoft Office or other related software applications.
  • Proficiency in quantitative methods, including statistical analysis and survey design; geospatial analysis using ARCGIS, Transcad or similar software.
  • General understanding of public transportation planning principles and applicable FTA regulations Preferred.
  • Familiarity of bus and/or rail scheduling concepts preferred.
  • Ability to learn and use transit scheduling and analysis software such as Trapeze FX preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and contribute effectively to team-based projects.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify issues, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meets deadlines, and adapts to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills using sound judgement and logical analysis.
  • Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services. Acts with customers in mind. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
