Project Manager for EO Payloads & Missions (m/f/d)

In this role, you will lead complex Earth Observation (EO) projects across the full project lifecycle, with a particular focus on ESA-related payload and mission activities. You will be responsible for managing project execution in line with technical, schedule, cost, and quality objectives, while coordinating internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
This position is particularly relevant for current and upcoming EO programmes and product developments and offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact missions in a dynamic project environment.

Your Tasks

  • Lead and develop the project team and provide day-to-day project leadership to ensure effective execution and strong team performance
  • Act as the main interface towards programme management, customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
  • Plan, monitor, and control the technical progress, schedule, cost, quality, and risks of the project or sub-project
  • Conduct regular project meetings and ensure transparent communication across all relevant stakeholders
  • Provide regular status reporting on the project / sub-project, including progress, risks, critical issues, and required decisions
  • Define and maintain the project schedule and support the allocation and implementation of the project budget
  • Ensure timely and accurate resource planning in close coordination with line management, team leads, and HR
  • Implement the OHB risk management process within the project and drive regular risk assessments and mitigation activities together with the team
  • Define and establish work packages and work orders for the operational units involved in the project
  • Support the project team with operational and coordination tasks as needed to ensure successful delivery

Your Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering, preferably with a focus on aerospace, or a comparable qualification such as physics or industrial engineering
  • Several years of experience as a project manager or sub-project manager, ideally in the space sector, or relevant professional experience in a technically related role within space projects
  • Experience in Earth Observation programmes, payload development, ESA projects, or related domains is highly desirable
  • Alternatively, candidates with relevant experience in procurement, studies, systems engineering, or adjacent project functions are also encouraged to apply
  • Strong communication and leadership skills combined with assertiveness, ownership, and an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics and areas of responsibility
  • Structured, solution-oriented, and independent working style with strong coordination and decision-making skills
  • Team-oriented, committed, flexible, and resilient
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
  • Good knowledge of MS Office and common project management tools such as MS Project and Planisware
  • Willingness to travel
  • Project management certification, e.g. IPMA, is an advantage
