Job Description

The Project Manager Engineering & Architecture will play a pivotal role in orchestrating and aligning Architecture, and Engineering Automation within the Hapag-Lloyd Technology Center FIS3 Engineering Department. This role ensures cohesive collaboration, technical governance, and engineering productivity across delivery teams to support enterprise-scale systems and continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of experience in IT delivery and governance, with strong exposure to architecture frameworks, engineering automation and AI. The role requires the ability to bridge technical and managerial perspectives — enabling high performance, consistency, and continuous delivery across diverse technology teams.

Project Lead

  • Lead a team of cross functional experts from the Architecture, Engineering and AI domain to drive different topics forward.

  • Drive new initiatives across teams to increase developer satisfaction, architecture adherence and productivity.

  • Facilitate cross-functional planning sessions, retrospectives, and governance reviews.
  • Ensure communication flow between teams in Chennai and global technology stakeholders.

Architecture Coordination

  • Partner with enterprise and solution architects to ensure design consistency, scalability, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Facilitate architecture reviews, standards documentation, and approval workflows.
  • Maintain visibility on system dependencies and integration patterns across global applications.
  • Support technology evaluation and architectural decision-making for major initiatives.

AI Engineering Capability Build-Up (Developer Efficiency Focus)

  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools to improve developer productivity across the software development lifecycle.

  • Partner with engineering teams and architects to identify and implement AI use cases in coding, testing, documentation, and code review.

  • Establish standards, governance, and best practices for responsible and secure use of AI in development.

  • Develop reusable AI-enabled accelerators and measure impact on productivity, code quality, and delivery speed.

Continuous Improvement & Governance

  • Establish governance models for architecture reviews, quality checkpoints, and operational KPIs.
  • Promote continuous learning, automation, and best practice adoption across teams.
  • Drive efficiency and maturity improvements across delivery pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, architecture, and project delivery within enterprise environments
  • Proven experience managing end-to-end technology projects, including planning, execution, and stakeholder management
  • Experience working with large-scale enterprise systems, preferably in logistics, shipping, or financial services
  • Strong exposure to Agile delivery, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with architecture and governance frameworks such as TOGAF or ITIL is a plus

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of microservices, event-driven architecture, and REST API design
  • Experience with Java, Python, JPA, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and microservices-based environments
  • Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and modern deployment practices
  • Expertise in system design (HLD/LLD) and maintaining high code quality standards
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices, static code analysis, and software quality frameworks
  • Exposure to AI agent architecture, including prompt strategies and multi-agent orchestration

  • Strong architecture thinking and governance mindset
  • Experience in project planning, delivery tracking, risk management, and stakeholder coordination
  • Ability to mentor teams and drive engineering best practices
