Position Title: Project Manager-Engineering

Location: Halifax, NS

As Project Manager, Engineering, you will lead capital projects that support the reliability of Nova Scotia’s electrical substation infrastructure. From early project development and business case planning through engineering, construction, commissioning, and closeout, you will have the opportunity to guide complex projects through their full lifecycle and see the tangible results of your work.

Working with high and medium voltage substation infrastructure, you will bring together technical expertise, project leadership, and strong stakeholder collaboration to deliver projects safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. You will partner with teams across Engineering, Field Operations, Control Center Operations, Asset Management, System Planning, Environmental Services, and Safety, while also coordinating with contractors and external stakeholders.

This is an opportunity for an experienced engineering and project management professional who enjoys taking ownership, solving complex challenges, and working collaboratively across disciplines. You will contribute directly to the successful delivery of reliability-focused capital investments while continuing to build your experience in a complex, regulated utility environment.

Key elements of this role include:

• Lead Substation Reliability Capital Projects involving high and medium voltage infrastructure, including transformers, switches, circuit breakers, reclosers, buswork, and related equipment.
• Manage projects from development and planning through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout, maintaining accountability throughout the full lifecycle.
• Develop project scopes, evaluate alternatives, and support economic and business case justification to help advance well-informed investment decisions.
• Drive successful project delivery by actively managing scope, schedules, budgets, costs, risks, and competing priorities.
• Provide financial oversight through effective budgeting, monitoring, forecasting, and cost control throughout project execution.
• Navigate regulatory governance requirements and ensure project scope and justification align with applicable regulatory and organizational standards.
• Bring together cross-functional teams and contractors to establish alignment, coordinate activities, resolve challenges, and keep projects moving forward.
• Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, to support successful project development and implementation.
• Champion a strong safety culture, with accountability for the safety of yourself, colleagues, and contractors working under your direction.
• Support responsible project delivery by ensuring environmental performance aligns with established environmental management processes and initiatives.

These skills will make you successful:

You combine strong engineering knowledge with practical project leadership and an ability to bring people together around shared outcomes. Your experience enables you to navigate complex projects while balancing technical, financial, regulatory, safety, and stakeholder considerations.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, combined with full membership or eligibility for membership in Engineers Nova Scotia. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may also be considered.
• At least six years of demonstrated experience managing projects through planning and execution, with a strong understanding of the full project lifecycle.
• Strong project management capabilities and knowledge of formal project management methodologies.
• A demonstrated ability to keep projects on schedule, within scope, and within budget, while successfully managing multiple priorities.
• Sound financial management skills, including budgeting and project cost control.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical teams, operational groups, contractors, customers, and other stakeholders.
• The ability to coordinate work and make progress in a complex, cross-functional environment.
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within Nova Scotia as required to support projects.

Experience with high or medium voltage electrical infrastructure and familiarity with a regulated utility environment would be valuable assets. PMP certification is also considered an asset.
