The Opportunity
The Defence Project Manager role will support the Defence team to deliver the Defence Sector Strategy, including project delivery, client management and the business development for Defence sector projects in Australia. By maintaining strong client relationships and the development and conversion of project opportunities, this role will ensure WSP is recognised as a leading industry provider of services to the sector.

The position will support the Defence Director and see the provision of strategic advice to Defence sector stakeholders and business partners during the project delivery phase, to ensure client and partner satisfaction and healthy long-term relationships.

This is a challenging role that will see you lead the delivery of best-practice consulting services to Defence clients throughout Australia and collaborate with other discipline leaders to deliver multi-disciplinary projects in the Defence sector.

You will be part of our accomplished Property & Buildings section and will work alongside our established team of Engineering technical experts, assisting in bidding and delivering successful projects. Your role will also be well supported across our business, with skilled resources in other sections. 

Key responsibilities
This is a challenging role that will see you lead the delivery of best-practice consulting services to Defence clients throughout Australia and collaborate with other discipline leaders to deliver multi-disciplinary projects in the Defence sector.

  • Support of National and Regional Defence strategy objectives to enable continued growth in the relevant sector; including new business conversion, turnover, profit and market share.
  • Achievement of long-term client/business partner relationships which enhance the flow of preferred project opportunities.
  • Achieve innovative, creative and well-differentiated bid proposals.
  • Overseeing project team’s execution of contracted obligations.
  • Encouragement of staff development and mentoring.

About you

  • Bachelor to Masters' level degree in relevant Engineering discipline & Project Management qualifications (eg; Diploma PM, CPPM).
  • Eligibility to obtain Australian Defence security clearance is essential – only eligible to Australian Citizens(Permanent Resident, NZ Citizens & Visa holders are not eligible).
  • Solid industry experience on Australian Defence projects ideally in a consulting environment.
  • 3 - 10 years’ experience in delivering in the infrastructure/construction sector within Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with a Defence Design Services Contract, Managing Contractor Contract, and/or delivering PMCA services for Defence.
  • Strong contacts within the Australian Defence Estate & Infrastructure (Capital Facilities and Infrastructure) Group, federal government, local government and the related Buildings / Defence industry.
  • Previous accountability for project / business / department financial performance (profit and loss).
  • Strong practical knowledge of and commitment to health and safety
