Your mission

Your responsibilities

We are looking for a Project Manager (all genders) to join our Syria Programme on an 80% basis. The position involves extensive travel to Syria.

Overview of the position:

Hours: Part time (80%)

Starting date: As soon as possible

Duration: limited contract for 12 months

Location: Berlin, Germany

Department & reporting line: General Regional Peace Support MENA & Yemen, Head of MENA Unit

Compensation: According to TVöD Bund, pay grade E13

Your main tasks:

  • You ensure successful implementation and monitoring of the project, budget, and activities
  • You co-design and implement dialogue and peer-learning activities with selected stakeholders
  • You support the coordination of knowledge products (research and policy papers) with partners and experts
  • Within the project context you monitor and analyse the conflict dynamics in the country and region
  • You contribute to further development of the project by drafting concept notes and proposals, and you oversee financial management throughout the project cycle
  • You ensure smooth communication with partners, stakeholders, participants and donors
  • You contribute to decision-making processes on project staffing or consultancy cooperations
  • You mentor and advise junior roles within your project scope
  • You conduct extensive travels to high-risk areas

Your knowledge, experience & skills

  • Master's degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, Security Studies or a related discipline
  • Several years of professional experience in managing complex international projects
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience organising workshops, conferences or policy dialogues
  • Knowledge of security governance, community violence reduction, peace processes or political transitions
  • Experience working with/in conflict-affected countries and knowledge of the Syrian context
  • Strong organisational as well as intercultural and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work in high-level settings
  • Experience in remote communication and cooperation
  • Excellent verbal and written language skills in English and Arabic
  • Professional skills in the use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Teams)
