The Role

As the Project Manager, you’ll be working within the HelAS IDT where you will be responsible for delivery of Projects within our IDT and tasked with ensuring our commitments to our internal and external stakeholders are met. Our projects have a diverse and complex stakeholder community, both internal and external to the company.

You will be fully responsible and accountable for overall project performance throughout the lifecycle, including baseline management and delivering within budget ensuring the relevant governance and assurance is undertaken to deliver successfully to our customers. Also accountable for Health & Safety of the project. Lead and motivate cross functional project teams to deliver the contractual outputs and/or outcomes delivering on time, within scope and budget, also adhering to all security requirements. Ensuring that the project team selected has the required Suitable Qualified Experienced Personnel to undertake project delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Integrated Planning - Actively take forward the definition of outputs into detailed planning incorporating multiple areas such as scope, quality, time, cost, resources, risk and issues, communication, success and completion criteria and benefits management (called Project Management Plan), keeping up to date throughout the project lifecycle
• Budget & Cost Control - Working closely with the Portfolio Office to ensure project controls are in place and accurate and timely performance information is available
• Risk & Issue Management - Proactively, identify and assess risks, plan and implement responses to those risks and respond to issues that affect the project
• Reviews - Attend project reviews, using performance reporting to provide an assessment on the status of the project in relation to the RAG and proactively manage any variances
• Stakeholder Engagement - Fostering a collaborative approach. Engage, influence and collaborate with all stakeholders (internal, including Finance, Commercial, People, Enterprise Services, Portfolio Office, Technical & Supply Chain and external), ensuring on-going commitment
• Commercial Management & Change Control - Engage in pre and post contract discussions to shape project scope and collaboratively work with the Commercial function to understand QinetiQ's contractual rights and obligations

Essential experience of the Project Manager:

• Experience of operating in a Helicopters and/or Air Mobility environment, or similarly highly regulated programme area would be an advantage
• 3-5 years’ experience of working within project teams and leading on projects

Desirable qualifications for the Project Manager:

• APM PMQ, PMI PMP or AIPM CPPM, or demonstrate working towards equivalent certification from accredited body
• Degree educated in appropriate discipline

This role is 37 hours per week and is based out of either our Bristol or Boscombe Down facility with an expectation of being onsite 3 days per week on average and will require travel to various QinetiQ sites.

The QinetiQ facility in Bristol is part of the company’s broader operation focused on defence and technology innovation. The site houses a diverse team of engineers, scientists and technical professionals who bring expertise to various projects ensuring high-quality outcomes.

Boscombe Down

MOD Boscombe Down is a unique operational site featuring the longest military runway in the UK. Primarily focusing on providing testing, evaluation and support services for aviation and aerospace systems. Renowned for its extensive flight-testing capabilities the site plays a vital role in the UK’s aviation defence contributing to the development, testing and airworthiness of military aircraft enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness.
