Job Description

We are seeking a project manager to join our Life Science team in Macclesfield .

we require a Project Manager with a strong pre-construction and design management background to join our team in Macclesfield ideal person should be within reasonable commute .

Reporting to the Project Director, the Project Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of construction projects from pre-construction through to completion. The role ensures that work is carried out safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards. The Project Manager provides leadership to project teams, manages client and stakeholder relationships, and ensures compliance with all contractual, regulatory and company requirements.

The role requires someone who can take ownership of a project during the pre-construction stages, drive the design process forward and manage the project as a PM, ensuring that design, programme, commercial and construction requirements remain aligned.

This is not a design production role. The person does not need to personally produce drawings or technical design content, but they must have sufficient technical and construction knowledge to understand the design, challenge it where necessary, coordinate the relevant parties and ensure that decisions and deliverables are progressed on time

Responsibilities

  • Managing projects through pre-construction and design development stages.
  • Acting as both Project Manager and Design Manager, particularly during the early stages of a project.
  • Developing and managing design programmes, deliverable schedules and design responsibility matrices.
  • Coordinating architects, structural engineers, M&E consultants, specialist designers, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
  • Chairing design and pre-construction meetings and ensuring actions are properly closed out.
  • Driving consultants and subcontractors to meet agreed design dates and project milestones.
  • Reviewing design information from a constructability, coordination, programme, cost and risk perspective.
  • Identifying design gaps, interface issues, missing information and potential construction risks at an early stage.
  • Managing RFIs, technical queries, design changes, approvals and client decisions.
  • Supporting procurement by ensuring design information is sufficiently developed for subcontractor enquiries and package procurement.
  • Working closely with commercial, planning and operational teams so that the design strategy supports the overall project programme and budget.
  • Managing the transition from pre-construction into the construction/delivery phase.
  • Providing clear project reporting, including design status, key risks, outstanding decisions and recovery actions where required.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience with technically complex projects and/or M&E-intensive, pharmaceutical, industrial or other highly regulated environments would be particularly beneficial.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills with the ability to manage teams and subcontractors
  • Excellent understanding of project delivery processes including scheduling, cost control and quality management
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and best practice
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills

Desirable

  • Experience delivering projects in sectors such as life sciences, data centres, infrastructure or commercial construction
  • Understanding of digital project delivery tools including BIM and project management software
  • Commercial awareness including contract law and cost management principles
  • Ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives and promote innovation

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in project management within a Tier 1 construction or engineering environmen
  • Relevant health and safety certification (e.g. Safe Pass, CSCS, SMSTS or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Professional membership or working towards membership of a recognised body (e.g. CIOB, Engineers Ireland, RICS, ICE)
  • Postgraduate qualification in project management or business management
  • Training in lean construction, digital project delivery or sustainability practices
