Job Title

Project Manager

About your role:

Reporting to the Programme Director and/or Programme Manager, the role of Project Manager is to lead the planning, governance and delivery of complex client projects and initiatives in support of specified business outcomes, while managing resources across multiple areas, and potentially third parties, to achieve agreed cost, time and quality objectives.

The Project Manager is accountable for the overall progress, control and successful delivery of the project across the full lifecycle. The role provides leadership, structure and coordination across project workstreams, ensuring that scope, schedule, budget, risks, issues and dependencies are actively managed and aligned to programme objectives.

Working closely with clients, senior stakeholders, internal Fiserv teams and external partners, the Project Manager acts as a central point of leadership across delivery activities, ensuring that projects are delivered in line with business, operational and technical requirements, and that stakeholders remain aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

What you’ll do:

  • Defining the project brief and delivery approach in alignment with client and programme objectives.
  • Setting client expectations with respect to project deliverables, timelines, plans and governance.
  • Establishing an appropriate project governance structure in line with the Fiserv programme/project methodology and governance framework.
  • Supporting the client and sponsor in obtaining the necessary authorisations, approvals and sign-offs for the business case and key delivery decisions.
  • Documenting the overall project approach, including phasing strategy, scope boundaries, assumptions and delivery options where applicable.
  • Developing estimates for resources, costs and durations and, based on these, creating a high-level project schedule and requesting appropriate resources.
  • Facilitating the development of all elements of the project plan, including scope, schedule, budget, change management, issues, risks, procurement, testing, training, communications and transition to BAU.
  • Ensuring that all project impacts on business processes, operational readiness and business continuity are assessed and continually monitored throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinating cross-functional Fiserv teams, client stakeholders and third-party partners to ensure alignment on plans, deliverables, dependencies and milestones.
  • Acting as a primary point of coordination for the project and maintaining strong working relationships across stakeholders.

Execution & Controls

  • Managing and maintaining the overall project plan, governance, budget, work assignments, risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies in accordance with established Fiserv governance.
  • Reporting project status, including schedule, cost, benefits, risks, issues, milestones and scope changes, to clients, sponsors and stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Organising and facilitating governance forums to review project progress, manage escalations, support decisions and agree corrective or preventive actions.
  • Managing project risks and issues, ensuring that ownership is clearly assigned and that resolution activities are progressed in a timely manner.
  • Monitoring delivery progress across all workstreams and ensuring that deliverables are completed on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Ensuring that project team members and workstream leads are aligned on priorities, responsibilities, deliverables, reporting requirements and escalation paths.
  • Building and maintaining a cohesive cross-functional project team environment and fostering productive working relationships across Fiserv, client and third-party teams.
  • Ensuring the development, review and approval of all key project deliverables and governance outputs.
  • Refining resource, cost and duration estimates as the project progresses, ensuring that resource requirements for each phase are identified early enough to secure the required support.
  • Managing proposed changes in scope, schedule or budget with key stakeholders, clearly communicating impacts, trade-offs and recommended actions.
  • Scheduling, managing and participating in project reviews, quality reviews and key delivery checkpoints, and driving action plans to address issues arising.
  • Organising, leading and motivating a matrix team of Fiserv SMEs and, where applicable, third-party resources.
  • Maintaining an ongoing dialogue with PMO and programme leadership to ensure that defined project processes are followed and that issues are addressed in a timely and structured manner.
  • Ensuring a structured and fully supported transition to BAU, including appropriate handovers to service and support teams.
  • Providing leadership support during critical delivery milestones, including out-of-hours coverage where required.
  • Performing project administration, including status reporting, documentation management, financial tracking, action tracking and governance support.

Closeout & Transition

  • Obtaining approval from the sponsor and client that project acceptance criteria have been met.
  • Confirming that project objectives and agreed deliverables have been achieved.
  • Confirming that all outstanding project risks and issues have been accepted, transitioned or resolved appropriately.
  • Performing comparisons of estimated and actual costs and supporting financial closeout activities.
  • Facilitating the project evaluation and obtaining approval to close out the project, documented within an end-of-project report.
  • Performing project closeout activities and archiving project documentation. Where applicable, conducting a formal Lessons Learned session and publishing the results to all stakeholders.

Experience you’ll need to have:

  • Significant proven experience in project management roles, preferably gained within the Financial Services industry, in the Cards and Payments sector (8+ years).
  • Strong command of MS Office products, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project.
  • Strong client-facing communication, stakeholder management and governance leadership skills.
  • Strong leadership presence, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional teams in a matrix environment.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycles, governance, financial control and transition to BAU.
  • Ability to plan and monitor complex projects consisting of multiple workstreams and delivery endpoints.
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong network of contacts across the Fiserv organization, interfacing with multiple IT groups, business units and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with professional proficiency both in English and in Italian.

Experience that would be great to have:

  • PRINCE2 certification or equivalent project management certification preferred.
  • Experience in card and/or payment processing environments is preferred.
  • Proven experience managing complex, medium to large client-facing projects involving multiple workstreams, stakeholders and interdependent resources.
  • Experience managing full lifecycle projects, including planning, governance, financial control, execution oversight and transition to BAU.
  • Experience facilitating governance meetings, project reviews and workshops involving internal and external participants, including senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working on multi-lingual, multi-country projects and willingness to travel for business as required.
  • Experience supporting migrations from legacy platforms to modern processing platforms.
