Job Description

Project Manager – Construction & Facilities (Healthcare Environment)


Project Managers oversee field operations for construction, maintenance, and roofing projects within healthcare, academic, and occupied facilities. This role is responsible for coordinating on-site activities while ensuring strict compliance with Joint Commission standards, Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) requirements, life safety codes, and institutional policies.

Project Managers lead crews, monitor project progress, and ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in a manner that minimizes disruption to patient care, clinical operations, and staff. This position requires strong technical knowledge of construction, maintenance, and roofing procedures, bilingual communication skills, and experience working in regulated healthcare environments.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Field Operations

  • Retrieve and review work orders; plan routes and ensure required tools, equipment, and materials are prepared prior to arrival on site.

  • Manage day-to-day field operations for construction, maintenance, and roofing projects within active healthcare and institutional facilities.

  • Coordinate work schedules and sequencing to reduce impact to patient care, clinical functions, and facility operations.

  • Maintain quality control and ensure projects are completed within approved budgets and timelines.

Healthcare Compliance, Safety & Infection Control

  • Ensure all work complies with Joint Commission standards, ICRA protocols, life safety requirements, and facility-specific policies.

  • Implement and enforce infection control measures including containment barriers, negative air systems, dust control, and site cleanliness.

  • Conduct pre-task planning and ICRA reviews prior to work commencement.

  • Maintain compliance with Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) when applicable.

  • Immediately address any conditions that may pose risk to patients, staff, or visitors.

Construction, Maintenance & Roofing Oversight

  • Supervise construction, maintenance, and roofing activities including repairs, replacements, preventive maintenance, and minor renovations.

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of building systems, roofing assemblies, waterproofing, interior finishes, and structural components.

  • Identify field conditions, recommend corrective actions, and coordinate solutions with internal teams and facility representatives.

  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with approved scopes, drawings, and healthcare construction standards.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Document project activities using clear notes, photos, permits, and reports within company operating systems.

  • Maintain accurate records of labor, materials, equipment usage, and billable activities.

  • Prepare and submit documentation required for regulatory compliance, audits, and project closeout.

  • Conduct final inspections, obtain approvals, and confirm satisfactory completion of work.

Estimating & Scope Coordination

  • Assist with or prepare project scopes and cost estimates for construction, maintenance, and roofing work.

  • Coordinate scope development with internal teams, vendors, and facility management.

  • Adjust scopes and estimates based on site conditions, compliance requirements, and stakeholder feedback.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate effectively with facility leadership, clinical staff, vendors, and clients in English and Spanish

  • Explain work activities, schedules, infection control measures, and next steps clearly and professionally.

  • Address concerns promptly while maintaining compliance-driven and patient-centered communication.

Team Leadership & Training

  • Supervise field personnel and ensure adherence to safety, infection control, quality, and performance standards.

  • Train and mentor technicians and team members on healthcare construction protocols, including ICRA and Joint Commission expectations.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and professionalism in healthcare environments.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Fluent in English and Spanish (verbal and written)

  • Strong knowledge of construction, maintenance, and roofing procedures

  • Demonstrated experience working in healthcare or occupied facilities

  • Working knowledge of Joint Commission standards, ICRA, and ILSM

  • Ability to read construction documents, scopes, and technical plans

  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills

  • High level of professionalism and attention to detail
