About the Department

The Strategy, Planning and Analytics Departmentworks collaboratively with each department across the organization to support strategy, growth plan execution, project management, and strategic business operations planning. The team provides the organization with in-depth analytical support by evaluating existing operations and new business opportunities. The team helps lead and advise cross-functional project teams in executing the many action items, special projects, and enhanced operations that help NYRR reach its strategic objectives. The Membership program also resides within the department, developing ongoing enhancements to strengthen its impact. 

About the Position

The Project Management Specialist will report to the Director of Project Management with the core responsibility of providing project management support for critical initiatives related to NYRR’s core strategic pillars and objectives. This role will support leaders in managing cross-functional teams to execute projects on time, within budget, and in scope.

Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):

Core Responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute, and monitor a wide array of NYRR’s cross functional projects and initiatives

  • Support development of project charters to inform project kick off, and to ensure projects align with business case, strategic plan, and organizational goals

  • Lead cross functional teams & meetings to ensure projects are successfully executed and stay within scope and budget

  • Develop and track project timelines with key milestones and risks, report regular progress to key stakeholders

  • Manage communications with internal and external stakeholders

  • Actively monitor project risks and scope creep to identify potential problems/risks

  • Support Director of Project Management (planning, scoping and execution) on new and recurring initiatives, working with cross-functional teams from across the organization

Supporting Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Director, Project Management to instill PM best practices at NYRR by supporting development of project templates, documentation, contingency planning, and training materials 

  • Build upon current cross-functional collaboration best practices with the goal of fostering increased communications and teamwork across the organization 

  • Partner with other NYRR teams to identify and develop opportunities for operational improvement, embrace organization-wide change management and role model associated best practices 

  • Assist with facilitation of internal innovation, collaboration and planning sessions

  • Assist with the execution of annual internal strategy sessions

Experience:

  • 3+ years of project management experience

  • Demonstratable experience with timeline, scope and budget management, and process improvement projects

  • Strategy experience a plus

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required 

  • PMP or other Project Management certification a plus 

Skills and Attributes:

  • Resourceful, innovative, and strategic thinker 

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills combined with a strong work ethic and tenacity 

  • Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail 

  • High initiative and ability to drive timely delivery of workplans  

  • Capacity to synthesize large amounts of data and effectively present findings to leadership and area owners 

  • Financial aptitude and business acumen, able to read, understand, translate, and create qualitative and quantitative reports related to financial and business performance 

  • Superb time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously 

  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; aptitude to work with a variety of internal and external constituencies  

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team on collaborative assignments 

  • Ability to exercise discretion with confidential matters and information 

  • Familiar with NYC communities across all five boroughs

Other Requirements:

  • All staff are required to work the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon, RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon, and the TCS NYC Marathon

  • Ability to work occasional weekends or evenings

  • Hybrid work schedule, 2 days in office between Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday

  • Experience in sports or the New York City running community a plus
