Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior is seeking to hire an experienced Project Management professional to lead a portfolio of high-impact clinical research initiatives focused on substance use disorders and related conditions. This role will oversee the full lifecycle of complex studies—driving project execution, managing cross-functional teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and advancing innovative research in psychosocial, pharmacological, and behavioral interventions. The position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with leading investigators, federal partners such as the NIH, and multidisciplinary teams across academia and healthcare to deliver meaningful, real-world impact.

The ideal candidate is a strategic and collaborative leader with strong experience in research operations, grant development, and stakeholder engagement. In addition to managing study design, data oversight, and human subjects compliance, this individual will contribute to grant writing, scientific publications, and the growth of a robust research program. A passion for mentorship, commitment to excellence, and the ability to translate research into practice and policy will be key to success in this highly visible and mission-driven role.

Annual range: $95,400-$208,300

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience or training.
  • Knowledge of literature on substance use disorder treatment.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate staff including delegation, evaluation of work, and performance review.
  • Knowledge and experience working within HIPAA and 42 CFR data confidentiality regulations. Required Ability to work collaboratively with state and county policymakers.
  • Ability to determine appropriateness of statistical techniques to address research questions and hypotheses.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and collecting data through online surveys.
  • Proficiency and experience managing large administrative databases.
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide presentations to large audiences.
  • Demonstrated writing skills sufficient to produce research text for publication and success in academic writing and publishing.
  • Experience in grant preparation and project planning and implementation.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures for grant agencies.

Preferred:

  • Ph.D. in Psychology, Public Policy, Public Health, Social Welfare, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience
