Our client is a fast-growing, technology-driven energy company focused on utility-scale battery energy storage solutions. They are expanding rapidly across the APAC region, building large-scale BESS for grid stability, renewable integration, and long-duration storage. Their mission is to accelerate the clean energy transition by combining manufacturing excellence and operational scalability.

The Senior Project Director will lead the end-to-end delivery of large BESS projectsfrom contract negotiation through to commissioning and handover. Reporting to the Regional Program Head, this role spans feasibility, engineering execution, construction, testing, and operational handover. You will be responsible for delivering projects on time, within budget, and to high quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage BESS project execution across the APAC region, including contract management, procurement, logistics, construction, and commissioning.

• Coordinate feasibility analyses, prepare business cases, and create project assignment/control documents.

• Build and lead cross-functional project teams (engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning) to achieve project objectives.

• Oversee project cost, schedule, quality, risk management, and stakeholder communications.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and industry standards across jurisdictions.

• Drive project risk identification, mitigation, and escalation to senior leadership.

• Monitor KPIs, project metrics, and report on project performance to stakeholders.

• Collaborate with business development teams to support new BESS deal structuring, providing technical and strategic input.

• Facilitate handover to operations teams, including training, maintenance planning, and quality assurance.

Qualifications

• Experience: 812 years (or more) in renewable energy project management; preferably with direct BESS project delivery experience (or large EPC infrastructure).

• Education: Bachelors or Masters in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration or a related field. PMP / Prince2 or similar certification preferred.

• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of battery storage systems, power electronics (PCS, BMS), site logistics, commissioning, and safety management.

• Leadership: Proven ability to lead cross-functional, cross-cultural teams in multi-country projects.

• Communication: Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills. Business fluent in English; Chinese (Mandarin) or other APAC languages is a strong advantage.

• Mobility: Willingness to travel frequently (~ 60%) and work on-site at project locations.

• Other: Strong problem-solving skills; risk- and budget-management mindset; ability to work in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
