Austal USA Advanced Technologies (AT) is a division of Austal USA, a global defense prime contractor and a designer and manufacturer of defense and commercial ships.

Austal USA AT works at the forefront to invent, mature, and implement advanced maritime technologies which enhance operational capacities and improve readiness of our defense systems. Austal USA AT operates a technology hub in Charlottesville VA which works to bring cutting-edge manufacturing technologies to scale and also oversees operation of the U.S. Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM COE) located in Danville, VA. The mission of the AM COE is to operationalize additive manufacturing in the submarine industrial base and provide emergent request support to sustain our Nation’s fleet.

PURPOSE: The Project Management Analyst will report to the AMCOE Senior Program Manager and provide analytics and program execution support for additive manufacturing initiatives by evaluating program performance data and supporting informed business and operational decision-making.

AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads customer interface for additive manufactured parts, which includes responding to Customer Support Requests and developing Customer Request Packets. Leads customer alignment discussions on priority, risk, and deliverables. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Owns coordination and preparation of monthly meeting and quarterly program review presentation content required for internal and external briefings. Must have very strong presentation development (MS PowerPoint) skills.
  • Analyzes cost, schedule and technical performance trends and reports out as requested.
  • Supports the Senior Program Manager in the effective follow up of information between internal and external customers. Has responsibility for ensuring an effective flow of information and communication is maintained between Austal management, subcontractors and customer representatives to answer action items and assist in resolution of program issues.
  • Works with manager to ensure program priorities are achieved, subcontractor deliverables are monitored, project plans are developed and executed, and teaming agreements are adhered to. Strong cross-organizational communication is required.
  • Develops and manages tracking tools, databases, and processes for additive manufacturing to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Assists and serves as backup to the AMCOE Tour Coordinator for management of visitors while onsite. Performs coordination, set-up and conducts customer and VIP reviews, tours, and meetings.
  • Participates in meetings as required. When attending, always be on time, prepared and interactive. May be required to capture meeting minutes and/or action items at meetings.
  • Interfaces with operations, quality, engineering, and subcontractor personnel.
  • Performs program risk and opportunity management.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in a Business or related field.
  • 5+ years relevant experience in manufacturing or similar industry.
    • Related experience is defined as having experience with program management, performance metrics, tracking performance metrics for projects using Excel/Access, data analysis, project scheduling, government contracts, project estimating, programmatic oversight, business development, and/or presentation development with MS PowerPoint.
  • Detail oriented and able to resolve most daily issues without specific supervisory direction.
  • Able to read, understand, and interpret contract specifications, build specifications and other technical and contractual documents.
  • An understanding of ship design, shipbuilding methodologies preferred.
  • Experience with cross-functional organizations.
  • Experience with US government and/or ship repair organizations preferred.
  • Program/Project Management Certification or related coursework is a plus.
  • Ability to do high level research utilizing a variety of resources.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, Access.
  • Ability to translate rough notes into well-organized documents and presentations.
  • A proven record of success meeting schedule, budget and technical goals.
  • Must be able to take initiative and follow projects through to completion.
  • Willingness to work irregular and sometimes lengthy work schedule.
  • Works well in team environment and can communicate effectively with employees at every level in the company.
