Team Overview:The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) department is dedicated to ensuring the wellbeing of all employees, contractors, and visitors across every project and site. They develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, risk assessments, and compliance with legal and industry standards. By fostering a strong safety culture and promoting environmental responsibility, the HSE team plays a critical role in protecting people, reducing incidents, and supporting sustainable business practices throughout Alternative Heat.
The opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader within the energy saving sector as a Health, Safety & Environmental Operative (HSE). Alternative Heat specialise in the design, offsite prefabrication, modularisation, and onsite installation of prefabricated mechanical and electrical services for new build Data Centre and Decarbonisation projects throughout Europe, with a core focus on mechanical fit-out and supply of pre-packaged mechanical and electrical plantrooms. This is a hands-on role and leading role, responsible for delivering Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities within the Assembly/Production/Warehouse areas, through active daily engagement with production teams. Highly visible on the shop floor, the role focuses on the practical implementation of safety standards, collaborating with employees to identify risks, enhancing processes, and maintaining a safe, efficient working environment.

Responsible to | Head of Operations (M&A)
Maintain a strong on-the-floor HSE presence by promoting safe practices, leading a positive safety culture, and acting as the main contact for safety matters. Support teams in identifying hazards, conducting inspections, audits, and incident reviews, and turning findings into practical improvements. Manage permits, RAMS, corrective actions, and ensure compliance with legal and company standards.
Investigate incidents and near misses to address root causes, implement controls, and support audits and regulatory requirements. Drive engagement through inductions, toolbox talks, and coaching, while tracking performance, maintaining records, and leading continuous improvement with clear feedback and escalation of risks when needed.
