Your Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Geochemist to join our dynamic Exploration team. This role is pivotal in designing and implementing advanced geochemical programs that underpin our mineral discovery success. You will integrate geochemistry into exploration strategies, delivering high-quality data and insights that inform decision-making and accelerate discovery.

Why This Role Matters

Your expertise will shape IGO’s exploration success by building robust mineral system models and translating them into actionable targets that underpin our future growth.

What You’ll Do

  • Act as a geochemistry reference point for assigned project teams, escalating cross-discipline and company-level matters to the Senior Geochemist;

  • Apply advanced modelling and multi-element analysis to refine exploration targets;
  • Integrate geochemical data with geological and geophysical datasets for robust models;
  • Use geostatistics and machine learning for anomaly detection and predictive targeting;
  • Maintain data integrity and rigorous quality assurance and control across geochemical programs, from sampling protocols through laboratory liaison and database curation;
  • Apply and trial innovative geochemical techniques, and contribute to continuous improvement in technical processes and analytical protocols;
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance to geoscience and field staff, and champion safety culture in field and laboratory environments;
  • Communicate complex geochemical interpretations clearly to multidisciplinary teams and senior leadership; and
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global geochemical trends, pathfinder elements, and deposit models.

What You’ll Bring

  • Tertiary qualification (BSc Honours or higher) in Geology or Geochemistry, or equivalent experience;
  • Post-graduate degree in Geoscience with specialisation in Geochemistry or Mineral Exploration (desirable);
  • Previous experience in a geochemistry environment or in geochemical mineral exploration;
  • Working knowledge of copper, lithium and/or nickel mineral systems with exposure to regional targeting and early-stage opportunity assessment;
  • Strong background in mineralogy is desirable;
  • Exposure to metallurgical processes (heap leach / solvent extraction processing of copper ores) advantageous;
  • Familiarity with multivariate statistics, geostatistics, and machine learning applications in geochemistry;
  • Sound understanding of analytical methodologies, QAQC protocols, sample chain-of-custody and geochemical database management;
  • Exposure to geochemical and spatial data software for large datasets (e.g. ioGAS, Leapfrog, Micromine, acQuire, QGIS, Python or equivalent is considered desirable);
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence outcomes through technical excellence;
  • Willingness to travel to remote exploration areas;
  • Valid ‘C’ class manual drivers’ licence; and
  • National Police Clearance obtained within the last two months.
