This is one of those roles that really matters behind the scenes. It’s about getting the fundamentals right ensuring our assets are accurately recorded, valued, and reported so we can stand confidently behind our numbers. We’re looking for an experienced professional to step into this 18-month fixed-term role and lead the work to strengthen how we manage and account for our assets.

You’ll be joining at a time where your expertise will make a visible difference. From improving processes and documentation through to supporting key reporting and audit outcomes, your work will help set us up for the future creating clarity, consistency, and confidence across how we manage our assets as an organisation.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity

  • Lead the end-to-end fixed asset accounting process, including capitalisation, disposals, reclassifications, and depreciation, ensuring everything is accurate, timely, and aligned to accounting standards

  • Take ownership of the Fixed Asset Register reconciling it to the general ledger, investigating discrepancies, and lifting the overall quality and reliability of asset data

  • Coordinate asset valuations from start to finish, working with external valuers, auditors, and internal teams to ensure results are well understood and correctly reflected

  • Strengthen how we do things by developing and embedding clear, practical policies, processes, and documentation that support consistency across the organisation

  • Support key reporting deliverables including the Annual Report, Annual Plan, and Long Term Plan, providing trusted technical advice on asset-related matters

  • Identify and drive improvements across systems, processes, and controls helping create a more sustainable and efficient approach to asset accounting

He kōrero mōhou - About You

  • Proven experience in fixed asset accounting within a complex or asset-intensive environment, with strong technical knowledge of capitalisation, valuations, and relevant accounting standards

  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of a specialised area of work, managing competing priorities and delivering to statutory deadlines with a high level of accuracy

  • Strong analytical capability, with a track record of investigating discrepancies, resolving issues, and ensuring the integrity of financial data

  • Experience developing and implementing accounting policies, processes, and documentation that are clear, practical, and consistently applied

  • Confidence providing technical advice and working alongside auditors and stakeholders to support reporting outcomes

  • A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to balance detail with the bigger picture and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

  • Collaborative working style, with the ability to build effective relationships across Finance and the wider organisation

This is a fixed term, full-time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday. You’ll be based in Napier CBD.

The annual salary package for this role is $105714 - $124370 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer dependent on your skills and experience.
