Role Purpose
The role is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing world-class biscuit manufacturing lines from scratch, with a strong focus on cost competitiveness, scalability, energy efficiency, and future flexibility.
This position owns the front-end engineering and capital approval journey—from concept definition through layouting, mass balancing, vendor evaluation, and CAPEX estimation—ensuring that projects are technically robust and commercially competitive before moving into execution.
This is a strategic engineering role, not a plant operations or execution-heavy role.
Key Responsibilities
1. Front-End Engineering & Conceptualization
Conceptualize biscuit manufacturing lines from first principles based on business needs (capacity, product mix, cost targets).
Define
Line type and configuration
Line size and throughput
Technology choices for biscuit categories (glucose, sandwich biscuits, cakes / adjacent bakery).
Develop line architecture that enables:
Product variants
Future upgrades and modifications
Scalability without significant rework.
2. Layouting, Mass Balancing & Technical Design
Own detailed plant and line layouts, material flow, and space optimization.
Perform mass balance and capacity calculations across processes.
Define utility requirements (power, steam, compressed air, water, energy usage).
Ensure designs are fit-for-purpose, cost-efficient, and not over-engineered
3. CAPEX Planning & Capital Governance
Prepare CAPEX estimates, cost models, and technical justifications.
Drive projects up to AR Capital approval stage.
Ensure capital proposals are:
Cost competitive
Energy efficient
Aligned to long-term manufacturing strategy.
Support leadership with data-driven inputs for capital decision-making.
4. Vendor & Technology Ecosystem Management
Identify, evaluate, and engage with biscuit equipment OEMs and engineering partners.
Compare global vs local technology options to drive best value.
Develop strong understanding of:
Vendor capabilities
Proven vs emerging technologies
Cost and performance trade-offs.
Ensure selected solutions deliver competitive advantage in manufacturing.
5. Governance During Installation & Commissioning : While execution, installation, and commissioning are led by external vendors and execution teams, this role will:
Govern technical adherence to approved designs
Support issue resolution during commissioning
Ensure line performance meets approved specifications.
Travel to plants during critical commissioning phases as required.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with:
R&D (product/process requirements)
Operations (operability, maintainability)
Quality & Food Safety
Finance (capital governance and approvals).
Ensure smooth transition from design to execution to operations.
Experience & Background Required
Mandatory
8–15 years of experience in biscuit manufacturing engineering / project engineering.
Hands-on experience in:
Conceptualizing and setting up biscuit manufacturing lines
Front-end engineering, layouting, and mass balancing
CAPEX estimation and capital approval processes.
Prior exposure to installation and commissioning of biscuit lines (even if current role is design-focused).
Deep technical knowledge of:
Biscuit processes (mixing, forming, baking, cooling, packaging)
Line flexibility, efficiency, and energy optimization.
Strong familiarity with biscuit equipment vendors and technology landscape.
Preferred
Experience across multiple biscuit categories (glucose, sandwich, cakes).
Exposure to large-scale FMCG or bakery manufacturing environments.
Experience working with OEMs specializing in biscuit lines.
Educational Qualification
Bachelor’s/Masters degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering (mandatory).
