Job Description

The Project Engineer is a fully competent professional who independently executes complex engineering assignments and elevates the technical quality of certification projects for mechanical/electrical equipment subjected to seismic and wind events. The role applies advanced judgment, contributes to standards and methods, and provides functional guidance and review to Associate Engineers and Engineers, without people-management accountability.

· High-quality technical output: Complex calculations, reports, and design decisions meet internal standards and pass review with minimal rework.

· On-time delivery and risk management: Work packages and reviews are delivered to the master schedule; risks/scope deviations identified early with recommended actions.

· Standards adherence and improvement: Accurate application of building codes/internal procedures, plus contributions to method/tool enhancements.

· Team enablement: Effective guidance/mentoring that improves throughput and capability of Associate Engineers and Engineers.

Core Responsibilities

• Execute complex analyses of non-structural equipment (e.g., sheet-metal and structural steel components) to evaluate response to specified seismic/wind loads; select appropriate methods/assumptions and verify results.
• Review and synthesize customer drawings/models to define certification scope, constraints, and the engineering approach for standard and non-standard cases.
• Author clear, comprehensive technical reports that document inputs, methods, results, and code compliance, suitable for internal and customer stakeholders.
• Design and verify test fixtures for standard setups; collaborate with field/testing personnel to ensure adequacy, safety, and data quality in accordance with test plans.
• Coordinate test planning and logistics for higher-complexity projects; interpret test outcomes and reconcile with analytical predictions.
• Conduct peer and deliverable reviews (calculations, drawings, reports) and give actionable feedback; serve as a reviewer for complex assignments while collaborating with the Technical Specialist or Principal Engineer where they act as primary review authority per team guidelines.
• Mentor and guide Associate Engineers and Engineers on methods, tools, documentation, and professional judgment; support onboarding and skills development.
• Identify and resolve complex technical issues within established standards; propose options with trade-offs and recommend the path forward.
• Drive continuous improvement of procedures, templates, and toolsets to improve quality, consistency, and cycle time across projects.
• Communicate proactively with management, field/testing team, and customers to align on scope, status, and risks.
• Identify and communicate scope deviations, potential concerns or issues to management promptly with recommended options or corrective actions.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or related).
• Advanced proficiency in engineering calculations and validation for seismic/wind certification contexts; ability to read/interpret manufacturing and structural drawings.
• Proficient experience with Inventor and AutoCAD or similar tools.
• Proficient experience in engineering calculations or finite-element-based analysis/modeling (e.g., FEMAP, ANSYS or equivalent).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel for calculations/reporting).
• Project management experience.

Preferred / Nice to Have

• Demonstrated FEM/FEA experience (tools, workflows, or verification methods).
• Experience coordinating or interpreting shake tests and integrating results with analysis.
• Working proficiency with project management software.

Working Conditions

• Typical office environment; prolonged computer work; occasional lifting of up to ~10 lbs (documents/equipment).
• May support additional hours on occasion to meet project needs; minimal travel expected.
