With this vision and framework in mind, our Electric Division is seeking experienced Electrical Engineer with Project Management expertise to help transform our utility industry. In this role, you will provide engineering leadership and project management support for enhancing our physical security at substations, tower sites, buildings and electric transmission and distribution lines. The successful candidate must be equally comfortable performing engineering work themselves or providing technical leadership and direction to external engineering resources. Strong technical engineering capability, sound judgment, and the ability to drive projects through challenges to successful completion are essential regardless of the delivery model. This position is best suited to an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, taking ownership of outcomes, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions from concept through commissioning.

Responsibilities:

Program and Project Management

• Manage ATCO Electric’s Physical Security program through regulatory and business execution.
• Lead business case development and GTA requirements.
• Collaborate with industry peers and evolve ATCO’s physical security strategy and execution plan.
• Be a Project Manager, developing and executing multiple physical security projects for critical facilities for construction, operation, and maintenance.
• Plan, budget, schedule, report, and ensure overall execution of the design, construction, commissioning, and close-out project phases.
• Coordinate with a variety of internal teams (engineering, land, construction, operations, procurement, etc.) and external partners (consultants, contractors, vendors, etc.).
• Contribute to the scope development and evaluation of projects during initiation.
• Ensure compliance with our company project management processes.

Engineering

• Responsible for project specific conceptual and detailed technical design, primarily in substation layout and design.
• Provide commissioning support for project installation.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to complete multi-disciplinary projects.
• Apply Professional Engineering stamp, where appropriate, to professional work products and IFC project installation packages.
• Manage and guide consultant engineers in the development of engineering designs, IFC packages, technical deliverables, and project execution support.
• Apply strong technical knowledge and engineering judgment to develop high-quality designs, critically review consultant deliverables, resolve technical challenges, and ensure project objectives are achieved safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company requirements.
• Apply required codes, legislation, standards, procedures, and industry best practices while executing projects and assignments within accepted Company Safety, Environment and Quality Assurance objectives.
• Provide technical support or troubleshooting assistance to Field Instrumentation and Electronics Technologists.
• Participate in project requests and proposal evaluations.
• Provide support for the group’s undertakings, including investigations and studies to improve current practices and performance.
• Provide technical guidance to less experienced professionals, as required.
• Develop and improve technical company specifications or processes.
• Act as technical resource to provide support to various internal groups.
• Complete engineering assessments.
• Manage various capital or operational programs.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Professional Engineering Designation through APEGA is required.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in substation design and project management, construction, and operations is required.
• PMP designation will be considered as an asset.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
• Brings energy and enthusiasm to the role.
• Demonstrates a strong commitment to integrity and ethical conduct.
