Job Description

Invenergy is North America’s largest privately held developer, owner, and operator of power infrastructure. With 25 years of trusted execution, we deliver reliable, affordable energy through a diverse portfolio that includes natural gas, solar, land-based wind, energy storage, transmission, and domestic manufacturing. Headquartered in Chicago, we develop, own, and operate large scale projects that power communities and support the energy future.

This position will be open for application for at least 3 calendar days from the posting date. This position will remain open for application based on business need, which may be before or after the 3-day posting window.

Invenergy is hiring a Project Engineer, Renewable Electrical Engineering (SCADA). This role is on the Invenergy Construction team and is a key driver of how our wind, solar, and battery storage projects come to life. You will lead the end-to-end delivery of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and associated communications infrastructure, partnering with diverse stakeholders to shape conceptual designs, translate them into detailed designs, and drive procurement, commissioning, acceptance testing, and turnover. Your work will integrate and secure the SCADA/OT/IT ecosystem, including RTUs, controllers, energy management systems, network switches, firewalls, annunciators, and HMIs, ensuring every project starts up safely, reliably, and ready to perform from day one.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safe, compliant commissioning and startup of SCADA and communications systems for wind, solar, and battery projects. Bring systems online, validate performance through acceptance testing, and deliver a clean turnover to Operations.

  • Build and secure the communications network that runs the plant: IP plans, protocols, physical network interfaces, and firewall rules across SCADA/OT/IT equipment.

  • Partner with major stakeholders (plant controller OEMs, transmission operators, generator owners/operators) to configure controls and data paths to meet operational and grid requirements.

  • Own the energization and commissioning execution plan, define scope, sequence, readiness gates, and risk mitigations while maintaining NERC and project requirements.

  • Monitor construction progress remotely and via on site visits, support resolution of field issues, attend in person meetings with stakeholders, and provide on-site programming and field support during commissioning when required.

  • Coordinate with cross functional teams to ensure SCADA deliverables align with overall project requirements and critical path schedules.

  • Track design schedules, communicate status and risks, and ensure critical dates are met on time.

  • Maintain system specifications and configurations for SCADA, power plant controllers, RTUs, and IT/OT equipment to improve reliable operation and maintenance.

  • Oversee delivery of clean, complete as-built turnover packages (schematics, bills of materials, configuration/programming settings) to Operations for long-term maintenance and reliability.

  • Support technical due diligence with independent engineers and project partners by providing accurate, technical input and evidence.

  • Stay current on technology and best practices through training, conferences, and continuous learning.

  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership to support team priorities and business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related degree.

  • 4+ years of transmission, distribution, and/or generation SCADA systems experience.

  • Knowledge of both the physical and software aspects of networking equipment that connect generation assets.

  • Experience and familiarity with various industrial communication protocols and architectures such as OPC, DNP3, Modbus and EGD.

  • Experience working around HV/MV electrical infrastructure (substations/switchyards, distribution systems, transmission lines, transformers, relays, meters, CTs, and PTs).

  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple concurrent projects.

  • Considerable knowledge in computer and server operation.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

  • Up to 25% travel is required.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be legally authorized to operate a motor vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior installation, commissioning and site construction experience in renewable power generation.

  • Experience working on GE WindSCADA, GE WindCONTROL, Vestas Online Business, SEL RTAC, and/ or Ignition by Inductive Automation.

  • Advanced knowledge and programming of SCADA, HMI, PLC, and RTU platforms.

  • Working knowledge of NERC compliance for low impact cyber systems.

  • Proven ability to coordinate and align work across diverse stakeholders, including EPC contractors, engineering firms, OEMs, and customers, to support successful project execution.
