UGL’s Energy & Industrial national business unit is experiencing rapid growth, and we need motivated and capable people to join our team. UGL’s in-house engineering and design capability, together with our strong project delivery and operations and maintenance expertise puts us in a strong position in the market. Our target project opportunities include Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and Wind Projects, as well as Hydrogen and Ammonia projects.

As we continue to deliver & evolve, we are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our team in North Sydney!

About the role

As a key member of our engineering group, you’ll support the end‑to‑end delivery of HV substations, solar, battery and electrical balance-of-plant packages. From early design and procurement through to commissioning support, you’ll play an essential role in ensuring our projects are delivered safely, on time and to the highest technical standards.

Your duties and responsibilities will include

  • Lead and support procurement activities for electrical materials, equipment, and services

  • Plan and execute professional electrical engineering tasks with minimal supervision

  • Coordinate multi‑discipline design interfaces and manage subcontractor and supplier technical queries

  • Develop ITPs, work packs and documentation to support construction and commissioning

  • Review designs, assess constructability, and support project forecasting

  • Assist the Project Manager with schedule, cost reporting, risk assessments and compliance

  • Provide hands‑on support during commissioning alongside site teams

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical challenges and keep projects moving

Your skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering

  • Strong experience in HV electrical systems, substations, and design‑for‑construction environments

  • Proven ability to manage technical interfaces and support procurement activities

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships

  • Strong resilience, problem‑solving capability, and a positive, can‑do attitude

  • A commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
