Collins is seeking a highly motivated Design Project Engineer I to play a key role on our Western Division team located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest and background in structural design engineering who can bring creative design skills to a project team environment. This position requires the ability to perform both structural inspections and design, adhere to project timelines and budgets, and liaise with clients, contractors, and government agencies. Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs structural engineering computations according to engineering standards and practices.
- Provides technical engineering expertise to ensure that projects comply with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions.
- Reviews, analyzes, and resolves field and/or design issues.
- Prepares complete engineering plans or reports.
- Demonstrates proficiency in computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare design documents.
- Makes design recommendations and/or adaptations.
- Responsible for engineering projects of varying size and complexity in field or office in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Adheres to project budgets and timelines and apprises the Project Manager of potential or anticipated changes in scope.
- Is available to attend client meetings or events outside of normal working hours.
- Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
QualificationsEducation and/or
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year university.
- 0-5 years of internship or full-time experience required.
- Must show a strong interest in structural engineering design and analysis of heavy civil structures.
- Academic or professional experience in the design of heavy civil structures that may include bridges, piers, wharves, temporary structures, buildings, nonbuilding structures, dams, or earth retaining structures.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) encouraged.
- Proficient knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, Adobe, or Bluebeam).
- Working knowledge in drafting software such as Autodesk AutoCad, Microstation, or Revit encouraged.
- Working knowledge in structural design software such as Mathcad, Tekla Tedds, Enercalc, Risa 3D, STAAD, DeepEX, SPW911, BrR, or Hilti Profis encouraged.
- Must possess strong technical verbal and writing skills and be able to read technical literature and engineering plans.
- Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to apply professional knowledge to the solution of both routine and non-routine structural engineering services.
- The employee must be capable of driving/operating a motor vehicle for company business and maintain a valid driver’s license in the state of residence.
